What to Know About Chattanooga

With the legalization of sports betting in Tennessee, Action 247 aims to provide the best betting options for Tennesseans. To help inform those in the Volunteer State of the betting options that are available locally, we have put together a series highlighting Tennessee betting options.

Chattanooga Sports Betting – Make It to the Mocs

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga boasts six men’s and eight women’s Division I programs. The dominant programs are the men’s and women’s basketball teams, called the “Mocs” and “Lady Mocs,” respectively.

The men’s team won a Division II national title in 1977 before moving up to Division I and has won 27 total division/conference titles (the total of 27 is due to NCAA changes in the division and conference formats). The Lady Mocs have won 15 regular-season titles since 1983-84 and 14 overall conference championships.

Chattanooga’s football program competes in Division I FCS (which used to be Division I-AA). The Mocs made the Division I FCS playoffs in three consecutive seasons from 2014-16, including a run to the quarterfinals in 2014.

Three of their four playoff losses came to the No. 1 overall seed, but they’ve kept it close and should continue to do so.

Outside of football and basketball, the Mocs softball team has made seven NCAA tournament appearances. Wrestling has also been quite successful, winning eight of the past nine Southern Conference titles. The Mocs also compete in cross country/track and field, tennis, golf, and volleyball.

Chattanooga Sports Betting – Professional Options

The Chattanooga Red Wolves Soccer Club competes in USL League 1, which is the third tier of U.S. Soccer. Red Wolves SC began USL League 1 play in 2018. Similarly, Chattanooga FC competes as a Tier 4 side in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

Expanding to the rest of Tennessee, the betting opportunities continue to grow, especially when considering the “Big Four” teams in the state: the Tennessee Titans, Memphis Grizzlies, and Nashville Predators.

The Titans are strong Super Bowl contenders under head coach Mike Vrabel and feature one of the best running backs in the NFL in Derrick Henry. The Memphis Grizzlies are on the rise as well, building their team around 2019-20 NBA Rookie of the Year Ja Morant.

Finally, the Predators are at a pivotal point in their franchise history – it’s the end of the Pekka Rinne era in net, and the team is in the middle of an on-the-fly rebuild, as the COVID-19 pandemic has complicated salary cap concerns. The Predators should be a playoff team when the NHL drops the puck for the 2020-21 season.
