What to Know About Nashville

With the legalization of sports betting in Tennessee, Action 247 aims to provide the best betting options for Tennesseans. To help inform those in the Volunteer State of the betting options that are available locally, we have put together a series highlighting Tennessee betting options.

Nashville Sports Betting – College Bound

Nashville’s three Division I colleges offer an abundance of betting opportunities.

Vanderbilt offers 10 women’s and six men’s varsity sports, and 14 of them compete at the NCAA Division I level. The Commodores baseball team won the first national championship in school history in 2014, then won its second title in 2019. They’ve also made the NCAA Tournament every year since 2006.

Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball team won the NIT in 1990 and has made it to the NCAA Tournament five times since 2010.

The Belmont Bruins and Lipscomb Bisons are heated in-state rivals, competing at least twice a year in men’s basketball in the “Battle of the Boulevard.” Belmont has competed in eight NCAA Tournaments since 2006, while Lipscomb made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018.

The Tennessee State Tigers have produced nearly 100 NFL players from their football program. Their women’s track and field team, known as the Tigerbelles, is continually a top program, with 13 indoor and 14 outdoor AAU Championships.

The Music City Bowl has been held in Nashville since 1998. It is currently affiliated with both the Big Ten and SEC and is held annually in late December. The game provides one of the biggest non-professional sports betting opportunities in Nashville from year to year.

Nashville Sports Betting – Two of the Big Four

The Tennessee Titans compete at Nissan Stadium and are a team poised for Super Bowl runs for the foreseeable future. Head coach Mike Vrabel has revitalized quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s career, and running back Derrick Henry is one of the most powerful tailbacks in the game.

Just across the Cumberland River is Bridgestone Arena, home of the Nashville Predators. The Predators have made the NHL Playoffs for six consecutive years and are expected to make the playoffs again in the 2020-21 season. The NHL has not yet announced a starting date for next year after the coronavirus pandemic delayed the conclusion of the 2019-20 season.

Nashville Sports Betting – Other Professional Options

Looking to minor league baseball, the Nashville Sounds are the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The Sounds have won 10 division titles and three league championships, most recently in 2005, while the club was affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Nashville was granted a Major League Soccer expansion team, Nashville SC, in 2017 and began MLS play in February of 2020.
