What to Know

With the legalization of sports betting in Tennessee, Action 24/7 aims to provide the best betting options for Tennesseans. To help inform those in the Volunteer State of the betting options they may be unfamiliar with, we’ve put together this series to provide an introduction and overview of how to bet on specific sports.

Tennessee MLS Betting – Nashville SC’s Strong Start

In their first season in the MLS, Nashville SC finished seventh on the Eastern Conference table with a record of eight wins, eight draws, and seven losses. Their plus-2 goal differential was good enough to break the tie with the New England Revolution for the No. 7 seed by a single goal over the course of the season.

NSC lost to Columbus Crew FC in the playoffs.

Tennessee MLS Betting – Moneyline Bet

The most common type of MLS bet is a “moneyline” bet. All you have to do in an MLS moneyline bet is pick the winner of the game. Unlike other U.S. sports, MLS games can end in a tie, so betting on a draw is an option you should consider as well.

For example, in a non-playoff game, the moneyline odds for Nashville SC and Inter Miami may read “Nashville -190, Draw +325, Inter Miami +440.” In this example, Nashville is heavily favored at home.

You would need to bet $190 on Nashville to win $100. Betting $100 on a draw would win $325 if the game concluded with a tie score, and a $100 bet on Inter Miami would pay $440 if they won.

One big difference in scorelines between soccer and other U.S. sports is that the home team is listed first. You will need to know this, as the home field can play a big advantage, especially with fans in the stadium.

Tennessee EPL Betting – Halftime/Full-Time

When betting on the Halftime/Full-Time lines, you are trying to make a prediction on both who will be leading at halftime (or if the score will be tied) and the winner (or tie) at full-time. When halftime/full-time betting, you are placing two bets on potential outcomes, so payouts here are much higher than a moneyline bet.

Betting on the favorite for both halves may have a +125 payline, while betting the favorite in the first half, but the underdog to win could have a +5000 odds line. With those kinds of payouts, even a small wager can pay off in a big way.

Tennessee EPL Betting – Total Goals Over/Under

If the teams are evenly matched, and you don’t want to risk picking a winner or dealing with a frustrating draw, betting the goal total may be the smart play. When betting the over/under goal total, sportsbooks set a line with varying odds based on how many goals you think will be scored.

This ranges from under 0.5 (betting on a 0-0 draw) to over 6.5 (at least seven goals being scored). You can bet over or under at any of those goal levels or double your bet with an over at one score and under at another. It’s a great way to hedge your bets.

Tennessee EPL Betting – First Goal Scorer

Betting on the first goal scorer is one of the most difficult sports bets to predict. With 11 players per side who could theoretically score (although it’s a waste of your money betting on a keeper to score first), not to mention three subs per side (chosen from seven players on the bench), as many as 36 players could be the first ones on the scoresheet.

When betting on the first goal scorer in an MLS game, research is key. Does the team you’re betting on score mostly on the rush of a counterattack? If so, you should consider betting a striker as a safe play (unquestionably the safest bet, but it has a lower payout).

What if the teams build their attack by stringing passes together and focusing on heavy possession? In that case, betting on a midfielder for the first goal could be a smart decision.

Are they a team that thrives on set pieces? If so, you could be rewarded by betting on a fullback to score. However, in most cases, you should be looking at a striker or attacking mid to score first.

Do your homework, know the team’s general strategy and play design, and you’ve bettered your chances before the teams take the pitch.
