MLB American League East New York Yankees 2022

The Yankees continue to be a powerhouse in the American League. Last season, they grabbed one of the two Wild Card spots but were knocked out of the playoffs by the rival Red Sox in the Wild Card game.

Last season, the AL East was loaded with four teams winning at least 91 games. The Yankees finished third in the division with a 92-70 record.

There are high expectations heading into 2022. In fact, New York is tied for the second-best odds of winning the AL pennant and tied for the fifth-best odds of winning the World Series.

In a franchise that expects nothing less than World Series titles, the Yankees have experienced a “drought” since 2009. In 2022, they will look to make their mark on history and add a 28th title to the franchise.

MLB American League East New York Yankees History

New York Yankees were established in 1901, but they were not known until 1913. The franchise actually started as the Baltimore Orioles, although completely separate from the modern-day Orioles.

In 1903, the franchise was purchased by Bill Devery and Frank Farrell and moved to New York. With the move came a new name, but this time to the New York Highlanders. It wasn’t until 1913 that the franchise officially changed its name to the New York Yankees.

At its inception in 1901, the Yankees’ franchise was one of just eight teams in the American League, and they have been part of the A.L. East since the division was first introduced in 1969.

The history of the Yankees is arguably the richest in baseball due to their legendary players and unrivaled success. To this day, they are still considered perennial contenders, although they haven’t won a World Series in over a decade.

Their ability to contend is in part due to their ownership. In 1973, legendary owner George Steinbrenner was part of a group of investors that bought the club from CBS. Within a year, Steinbrenner bought out many of his partners and became principal owner.

Steinbrenner revolutionized the Yankees’ organization and saw incredible success during his reign as owner.

After Steinbrenner passed away in 2010, his son Hal Steinbrenner took over the team under the LLC Yankee Global Enterprises. Hal still incorporates many of the rules of his late father, including the fact that players need to be clean-shaven and have their hair trimmed.

Yankees have played at Yankees Stadium in the Bronx since 2009. The original stadium, of the same name, was played in from 1923 to 2008.
