Duke Blue Devils #9 NCAA Men’s Basketball AP Poll

Men’s Basketball Preseason Duke Blue Devils #9

ACC, 13-11

For the first time since 1980, someone other than the legendary Mike Krzyzewski will be leading the Duke basketball program following the 2021-2022 season.

He has delivered 11 Final Four appearances and five national championships during his 41 season tenure, and with John Scheyer waiting in the wings, Coach K will give it one more try to add a sixth title to his resume.

Although Duke missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1995, and their season ended prematurely due to Covid, they were just one season removed from a 25-6 record before the sport was shut down prior to the start of the ACC tournament in 2020.

In this era of one and dones, along with the use of the transfer portal, Duke should be able to easily recover from losing three double-digit scorers off the roster.

With Scheyer and his future assistants focused on recruiting, Krzyzewski was able to devote his time to acclimating another top recruiting class to augment three returning starters, including 7’0” center Mark Williams, who finished strongly last season.

Duke will face a big test in their first game on November 9th in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden against tenth-ranked Kentucky.
