The NBA and NHL continue to ramp up as we move through the first half of the year. With a few big games scheduled, let’s take a look at how we think three games will play out.
Seattle Kraken (+150) over Pittsburgh Penguins
The Seattle Kraken come into this game as +150 underdogs with a record of 6-4-2. After winning three games in a row, the Kraken are hoping to earn their seventh of the season. They’ll face the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, who have a 3-0-1 record at home. As a team, the Kraken average 3.50 goals per game while giving up 3.17.
The Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t performed well on defense this season. They’ve lost their last five games this season, dropping their record to 4-5-2. As they head into this game, they’re surprisingly favored at -213. However, we think the Seattle Kraken are the best pick for this game at +150.
Boston Celtics (-4) over New York Knicks
The Boston Celtics are coming off a 114-113 overtime loss the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although they’re coming off a loss, the Celtics still have a 5-3 record. Prior to their loss, the Celtics pulled off a 112-94 over the Washington Wizards. On average, the Celtics are putting up 116.1 points each game and they’ll look to do that again here.
The New York Knicks have lost their last three games this season. Their most recent loss was a 112-99 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Prior to that, they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-108. As a team, the Knicks are putting up 115.1 points per game. Keep in mind, Mitchell Robinson could be out for this game. So, we’ll take the Boston Celtics -4 over the New York Knicks.
Minnesota Timberwolves (+7) over Houston Rockets
After a 109-101 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Houston Rockets are 1-8. It’s been a tough season for the Rockets so far but hopes are still high. Their main problem is offense, they’re scoring just 107.0 points per game. Their sole win this season was against the Utah Jazz, who they beat 114-108.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have a 4-5 record this season, with a 3-3 record at home. On average, they’re putting up 114.1 points per game. Considering that it’s about seven points more than the Rockets do, we’ll go with the Timberwolves. They’ve done well against the spread this season, so they’re our pick.
