The NBA and NHL continue to ramp up as we move through the first half of the season. With a few big games scheduled today, let’s take a look at how we think three matches will play out.
Dallas Stars (-115) over St. Louis Blues
The Dallas Stars have an impressive 12-6-4 record this season and are 6-4-2 on the road. However, they’ve lost back-to-back games and are 2-3 in their last five games. Tonight, they’ll face the St. Louis Blues, a team that has a record of 11-10-0 this season. One thing that sets the Stars apart this season has been their team defense, allowing 2.91 goals per game, 12th-best in the NHL.
The St. Louis Blues have had a hard time scoring this season, averaging 2.90 goals per game. The big problem, however, is they’re giving up 3.52 goals per game. St. Louis has been wildly inconsistent as well, already posting an eight-game losing streak and a seven-game winning streak this season. With that degree of volatility, go with Dallas at -115 in this one.
Edmonton Oilers (-115) over Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers have taken a step back over the last five games. They’ve gone 1-4 in that span and are coming off an overtime loss to the Blues in their last contest. Their opponent Monday night is the Edmonton Oilers, a team that is always an offensive threat. While Florida hasn’t really been blown out this season, six of their 11 losses have come by at least two goals.
Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers are coming off a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers. The Rangers are a strong playoff contender which could mean a momentum swing for Edmonton. With little separating these sides at the moment, the Oilers are our pick to win it on Monday.
Los Angeles Lakers (-3.5) over Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers have an overall record of 11-8 this season and are 4-4 on the road. Their leading scorer is Tyrese Haliburton, who averages just 19.6 points per game. The Pacers recently lost 114-100 to the Los Angeles Clippers. They have a few big wins under their belt too, however, they won’t have an answer for Anthony Davis.
Davis has been the catalyst that sparked the recent performances from the Los Angeles Lakers. In their most recent game, they beat the San Antonio Spurs 143-138. Davis is averaging 26.3 points per game along with 12.8 rebounds. Although he’s listed as “day-to-day” he’ll take the floor tonight, making the Lakers the best pick.
