The NBA and NHL continue to ramp up as we move through the year’s first half. With a few big games scheduled, let’s look at how we think three matches will play out.
Dallas Mavericks (-7) over Los Angeles Clippers
Although they have a record of 8-6 this season, the Los Angeles Clippers are massive underdogs. Even with their 5-2 record on the road, they’re being spotted seven points. The reason for this is as of yesterday, both John Wall and Kawhi Leonard were ruled out. Considering they’re facing the Dallas Mavericks, this might be too much to overcome.
In their last five games, the Mavericks have a record of 3-2. They beat the Portland Trail Blazers last night 117-112. Prior to that win, however, they lost two games in a row. They still have wins over the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors to hold onto. They’re also 6-1 when playing at home, so they’re our pick for tonight.
Utah Jazz (-4) over New York Knicks
Leading the New York Knicks into this game is Julius Randle. Randle averages 20.8 points per game and 9.1 rebounds each game. The big problem is the Knicks will be without starting center Mitchell Robinson. Without him guarding the interior, the Utah Jazz will push the ball inside quickly.
Utah has a record of 10-5 this season with a 5-0 record at home. They’ve lost their last two games, both of which were road games. This is their chance to bounce back and get the team focused again. Look for Lauri Markkanen to step up and guide his team to a win over the New York Knicks.
Vegas Golden Knights (-278) over San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks have seriously struggled this season, boasting a 5-9-3 record. They have a 4-4-0 record on the road and rank sixth in the Pacific Division. As a team, they’re only averaging 2.71 goals per game. They’re also allowing 3.35 goals per game which will be a big problem tonight.
The Vegas Golden Knights are playing at home where they have a 5-2-0 record. Averaging 3.69 goals per game, the Golden Knights are one of the most efficient teams in the league. They put up a record of 4-1 over the course of their last five games this season. This one is an easy choice for us, take the Golden Knights over the Sharks.
