Yesterday we indulged in the opening day of the Stanley Cup playoffs, building our multi-game parlay around three of the four games on the schedule. And once again, it was close, but no cigar and parlay blog championship belt.

We successfully predicted our black-and-gold safety net and the Florida Panthers would hit the under, and the Minnesota Wild pulling off the road upset against the Dallas Stars in overtime.

However, it was the McDavids who let us down and destroyed dreams of recapturing our beloved blog championship. We predicted the Edmonton Oilers would defeat the Los Angeles Kings, and the Oilers did not do that, losing in overtime the Kings.

With the McDavid’s dropping the ball, our weekly parlay record drops to 0-2, but we are 3-3 on individual picks.

We keep the difficulty level high with our picks and have either the NBA or NHL playoffs to build a same-game parlay around. Let’s go back to the ice, shall we?

Vegas Golden Knights over Winnipeg Jets (-149)

The Vegas Golden Knights won all three head-to-head matchups this season, the last being a 6-5 win in Winnipeg on December 13.

Winnipeg and VGK have won three of the last five games and 6-4 in the previous ten. The favorite and home team are 4-1 in the last five meetings.

We’re siding with the Golden Knights to take game 1 in a close, hard-fought series.

Winnipeg Jets +1.5 over Vegas Golden Knights (-200)

Both teams posted 42-40 ats records this season.

Two of the three games this season ended in a one-goal Vegas win.

We expect the Jets to keep this close and cover the spread but lose in the end.

Winnipeg Jets versus Vegas Golden Knights Over 5.5 (-120)

The Jets have a 25-52-5 over/under record this season, while the Golden Knights went 36-41-5 over/under.

Vegas was 4-5-1 over/under in the last ten games, while Winnipeg was 3-6-1 over/under.

However, two of the three head-to-head matchups this season hit the over, and 5.5 is the lowest you’ll find an NHL total goals line.

Despite Connor Hellebuyck’s best efforts for Winnipeg, we’re taking the over and a 4-3 VGK win.
