Action247 Same-Game Parlay for February 4, 2023

Yesterday couldn’t have gone much worse in our daily parlays. We used stats, trends, and odds to build what we thought would be a winning combination.

We bet against the Indiana Pacers for a second game in a row, but this time the Pacers pulled off the upset against the Pacific-leading Sacramento Kings. The Atlanta Hawks upset the Utah Jazz, and the Phoenix Suns upset the Boston Celtics, but the teams combined for 220 points, and we picked the over of 221.5.

Wow, how wrong we were! But so it goes, and we move on with hope for a successful Saturday, despite having an 0-6 daily parlay record and an 8-9-1 record on individual picks.

We are now on a losing skid of epic proportions, and we’re going to look to a game featuring a team on an epic losing streak of its own and a team who came within one point of helping us hit our last same-game parlay.

Will both streaks of futility continue, or can either of us get a much-needed win?

Los Angeles Lakers over New Orleans Pelicans (-120)

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to extend their winning streak to three games, having won three of the last five games and six of the last ten.

The Lakers are the more efficient shooting team from the field. Los Angeles’ perimeter defense should be good enough to prevent the Pelicans’ better shooters from hitting from beyond the arc, where the Pelicans have the shooting advantage.

We share something in common with the New Orleans Pelicans: epic losing streaks. The Pelicans are currently riding a ten-game losing streak and will still be without Zion Williamson.

The Lakers are 8-1 on the road this season against teams with a losing record, while the Pelicans are 3-4 at home against teams with a losing record.

Someone’s losing streak has to end, and we don’t think it will be the Pelicans’ streak. We’re taking the Los Angeles Lakers to extend New Orleans’ epic streak of futility to 11 games.

Los Angeles Lakers -1.5 over New Orleans Pelicans (-110)

In our last same-game parlay, we took the Lakers to cover a slim -1.5 point spread, and they won but a single point. Since we’re taking the Lakers on the moneyline, the question is will they win by more than one-point?

The Lakers are 3-2 ats in the last five games, 6-4 ats in the last ten, and 25-27-1 ats on the season. The Pelicans are 0-5 ats, 2-8 ats in the last ten games, and 24-29 ats overall.

Many of the Pelicans’ advanced betting trends feature New Orleans being winless against the spread in various conditions and situations. However, we’ll simplify this and get to the point: New Orleans is 0-5 ats in the last five games.

However, one key stat haunts us and raises concerns for taking the Lakers against the spread: Los Angeles is 0-3 ats as a 1-2.5 point favorite on the spread, while New Orleans is 6-3-0 ats as the underdog of 1-2.5 points on the spread.

And yet we’re still picking the Lakers to cover the spread of -1.5.

Los Angles Lakers vs. New Orleans Pelicans Under 235.5 (-110)

Los Angeles has a 4-6 over/under record in the last ten games and a 28-25 record overall. The Pelicans have a 28-25 over/under record and a 4-6 over/under record in the last ten games.

The Pelicans haven’t faced a total points line of 235.5 points or higher in the last ten games. The Lakers are 1-5 over/under when facing totals lines of 235.5 points or higher.

Moreover, the under is 4-1 in the last five matchups between the Lakers and Pelicans.

We’ll follow the trends and take the under.
