Colorado Avalanche Roll Into in New York to Face the Islanders

The Colorado Avalanche will head to the brand new UBS Arena on Monday evening to take on the New York Islanders in a non-conference affair. Colorado has won four of its previous five games while the opposite can be said about New York. 

The Avalanche are currently leading the Central Division (40-11-4, 84 points) while the Islanders are sixth in the Metropolitan Division (20-23-8, 48 points) this season. 

This will be the second and final matchup between these franchises this season as the Colorado Avalanche defended home ice against the New York Islanders on Tuesday evening 5-3. Let’s see if the Islanders can split the two games or if the Avalanche can keep the wins coming.

A major reason why they have been so solid has been the play of center Nazem Kadri, who is tied for fourth in the NHL in both points and assists, with 68 points (22 goals, 46 assists) with four points in his previous four games. 

Compare that to the opposite side of things as the New York Islanders are averaging 2.55 goals on 29.3 shot attempts so far. Center Mathew Barzal has been leading the way as he has scored 37 points (12 goals, 25 assists) and has recorded six points in his previous five games. 

On the defensive side of things, the Avalanche are allowing 2.80 goals on 31 shot attempts this season while the Islanders are giving up 2.77 goals on 31.5 shots. Goalie Darcy Kuemper has been doing well for Colorado as he is 27-6-2 with a 91.9 save percentage and 2.47 goals allowed this year. Ilya Sorokin has a 17-12-7 record with 2.42 goals given up with a 92.2 save percentage so far.

These offenses are showing a huge divide as Colorado is averaging four goals in their last five games while New York is scoring three goals in their previous four games. The offense is going to be the biggest difference as Colorado is dominating in that department.
