As the 2023 US Open is heating up in New York City, there is one match that has caught the media’s attention this past week. Coco Gauff recently played Laura Siegemund. In the end, Gauff defeated Siegemund, but it didn’t come without a headache.

Coco Gauff Argues Case

Gauff was upset with the officials during the match because of a serve time controversy. You see, there is a time limit that player must follow when receiving the serve from the opponent. It is their job to be ready for the serve when the server is ready.

In this match, Laura tried to argue multiple times that she was not ready for the serve when in fact she was given ample time to get into position. However, the official did not call this out and give her a penalty.

This really upset Gauff, and after not saying anything during the first couple of times, she finally spoke up. The crowd in New York had her back as they cheered for her request.  In the end, she was able to defeat her opponent to continue in the tournament. When asked about the match, she says it was “slow”, and the crowd laughs with her.

Coco Gauff Continues in the US Open

Coco’s time in the US Open is not over and she says that she plans to take it one opponent at time as she continues. This is the deepest run she has had in any grand slam tournament. Furthermore, she says that she looks forward to playing her hardest even though she still has another two weeks in the tournament.

Coco claims to be both physically and emotionally fresh for the 2023 US Open. She is the first teenager to make it to the US Open since Serena Williams.
