Here’s an overview of some of the top games in sports being played on April 24th. Today, we’re taking a closer look at six games from MLB, the NHL, and the NBA Playoffs.
Chicago White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins – 2:10 PM ET
The White Sox, 6-8, continue their series against the Twins today. They’re already down two games in the series, bringing their losing streak to six games. Lucas Giolito, one of their better pitchers, will take the mound for Chicago tonight. Giolito has pitched four innings and thrown six strikeouts while giving up only one hit.
The Minnesota Twins, led by Byron Buxton, are on a three-game winning streak. In order to keep it going, they need to snag another win tonight. Chris Archer will take the mound for the Twins tonight and hope to keep the White Sox batters at bay. We’ll take the Twins to win the third game of the series tonight.
New York Mets vs. Arizona Diamondbacks – 4:10 PM ET
Another game we consider worth watching is the New York Mets against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets are 11-5 to start the season, setting Major League Baseball on fire. The 2-0 Tylor Megill will take the mound again tonight. The main question is can the Diamondbacks’ batters get the Mets pitching off balance?
The Diamondbacks, currently 6-9, have a 3-5 record at home this season. Madison Bumgarner is 0-1 this season but has an ERA of 1.38, which is better than Megill. Unfortunately for Arizona, their batting hasn’t been up to snuff. As a team, the Diamondbacks have a batting average of .190, one of the worst in MLB.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres – 4:10 PM ET
Another two teams that are always fun to watch face off at 4:10 PM ET. The Los Angeles Dodgers, 10-4, have a 4-3 record when playing on the road. The San Diego Padres are 10-6, but are they ready to face Clayton Kershaw? Kershaw is 2-0 this year, pitching 20 strikeouts in 12.0 innings.
The Padres will put Sean Manaea on the mound tonight, one of their best pitchers. However, Manaea will have his work cut out for him against the batters of Los Angeles. He’s 2-1 this season with an ERA of 1.42. The Dodgers, as a team, have a batting average of .246 and are led by Freddie Freeman at .327.
Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks – 7:00 PM ET
One of our “must-watch” basketball games of the day is the Miami Heat at Atlanta Hawks. Miami leads the series 2-1 but just took a 111-110 loss to the Hawks. With Atlanta still playing at home, Miami will try to use its defense to slow the production of Trae Young. If Miami can do this, they should be able to come away with a win.
The Hawks are going to do what they can to make sure Trae Young gets more scoring opportunities. At the moment, the Miami Heat have a ton of players on the injury list, which bodes well for Atlanta. Keep an eye on whether Kyle Lowry will play tonight, as he’s the one that guards Trae Young. If he’s out, we’ll take the Hawks to win this game.
Phoenix Suns vs. New Orleans Pelicans – 9:30 PM ET
Although Phoenix leads the series, they did lose a game to the Pelicans. In Game 2, the Pelicans beat the Suns 125-114, a win by a sizeable margin. The Suns bounced back in Game 3 with a narrow 114-111 win. Tonight, they’ll hope to go up 3-1 in the series and put the Pelicans on the brink of elimination.
In order for the Pelicans to tie up the series tonight, they have to play fast. What we mean is they have to control the tempo and not allow the Suns to take over. Stopping Devin Booker is usually the obvious challenge, but he’s been ruled out today. With Booker out, the Pelicans can focus on Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton.
Minnesota Wild vs. Nashville Predators
The Wild have put together a historic season. They’ve set a new franchise wins record (50 wins and counting), Kirill Kaprizov is the first in team history to put up 100 points in a season (45 goals, 56 assists), and the club has three 30-goal scorers in the same season for the first time ever (Kaprizov, Ryan Hartman, Kevin Fiala).
However, Nashville has owned Minnesota in recent years. Dating back to the 2018-19 season, the Predators have won nine of their last 10 matchups against the Wild. Nashville has outscored Minnesota 17-6 over three games this season. Taking the puck line in this one is quite appetizing.
