Here’s an overview of some of the top games in sports being played on May 8. Today, we’re taking a closer look at five games from the NHL, NBA, and Major League Baseball.

Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks – 3:30 PM ET

The Phoenix Suns currently lead this series 2-1, after suffering a Game 3 loss. Now they’ll head into Game 4 and try to get a win over Dallas before returning home. In the last game, the Suns’ offense was shut down completely, scoring just 94 points. As a team that scored 129 in the first game, this was a massive step back.

The Dallas Mavericks will look to do the same thing to the Suns tonight. If they can limit the effectiveness of the Suns’ offense, they can win this game. They’ll also have the added help of playing at home. The better news for the Mavericks is that the team is healthy. With that being said, we think the Mavericks will win this game and tie the series.

Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees – 5:05 PM ET

This will be Game 2 of a double-header between the Rangers and the Yankees. The Rangers, 10-14 this season, have won four of their last five games. Although the Yankees have a much better record than the Rangers, they’re similar in a few areas. On the mound for the Rangers is Glenn Otto, who has a 1-0 record this season.

The Yankees will start the LHP Jordan Montgomery, who is 0-1 this season. Montgomery has an ERA of 2.88 in 25 innings pitched. Through those innings, Montgomery has allowed 20 hits while throwing 20 strikeouts as well. This game will be a pitching battle and we think that in Game 2, Otto will win for the Rangers.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs – 7:00 PM ET

This game between the Dodgers and Cubs should see sparks fly. The Dodgers have some of the best batters in MLB, hitting 25 home runs this season. They’re also sending one of their best pitchers out onto the mound, Walker Buehler. Buehler has a record of 3-1 this season with an impressive ERA of 2.12.

For the Chicago Cubs, Marcus Stroman will get the start. Stroman is 1-3 this season and facing a strong group of batters tonight. The good news for Stroman is the Cubs follow closely behind the Dodgers in terms of batting. Still, with the Cubs batters facing Buehler, we feel the Dodgers will come away with this one.

Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers – 8:00 PM ET

Similar to the Phoenix Suns, the Miami Heat were leading this series 2-0. However, they lost in Game 3 just like the Suns did and now, the series is 2-1. Tonight, Miami will be tasked yet again with trying to stop Joel Embiid. Embiid missed the first two games of the series but is back in the lineup now.

Because Embiid is back, it opens up the floor for other players. With him getting the most attention, Tyrese Maxey and James Harden will perform better. The 76ers are also at home, where they’re 24-17. We feel the 76ers will tie the series tonight at 2-2, covering the spread and winning the game.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Los Angeles Kings – 10:00 PM ET

Our final game of the night is between the Oilers and Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers lead this series 2-1 after an impressive 8-2 win in Game 3. In the previous game, the Oilers scored 6 goals, easily overwhelming the offense of the Kings. We think the outcome will be similar in tonight’s game if the Kings can’t stop Edmonton.

In order to do this, the Kings will need to play better defense. So far, the Kings have allowed 5.66 goals per game during the series. If they can tighten up their defense, the Kings could come away with a win here. However, through the last two games, we’ve seen no sign of life from the Kings defense. We’ll take the Oilers -160 here.
