Here’s an overview of some of the top games in sports being played on June 9. Today, we’re taking a closer look at five games from Major League Baseball and the NHL Playoffs.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago White Sox – 2:10 PM ET
Today, the first game we’ll take a look at is the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Chicago White Sox. Yesterday, in the second game of this series, the Dodgers claimed a 4-1 victory. Today, they’ll send out the 7-0 Tyler Anderson to the mound. Anderson has pitched incredibly this season with a 2.59 ERA and has thrown 53 strikeouts.
The Chicago White Sox is also starting a strong pitcher, Dylan Cease. Cease has a record of 4-2 this season with an ERA of 3.39. With both pitchers having similar stats, this will come down to batting. The Dodgers clearly have an edge in this category, batting .248 as a team this season. Look for the Dodgers to come out on top tonight at -125.
Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins – 6:40 PM ET
Jumping forward to later in the day, the Nationals will face off against the Marlins. Washington, with a record of 21-37 this season, has lost their last two games. Both of those losses were to the Miami Marlins. On the mound tonight is Stephen Strasburg, who has yet to pitch this season. We’ll have to see how long the Nationals keep Strasburg on the mound.
The Miami Marlins will start the 2-5 LHP Trevor Rogers. Rogers has an ERA of 5.80 this season over the course of 45.0 innings pitched. The Nationals, however, have the edge in terms of batting with a .253 batting average. With the help of Strasburg, the Nationals can get back on track with a win tonight. We’ll take Washington at +125 today.
New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins – 7:40 PM ET
The games between the New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins are usually entertaining. Through this series, the games have been split right down the middle. Yesterday’s game ended in an 8-1 loss for the Yankees. Today, they’ll send out Gerrit Cole, who has a 5-1 record as a starter with an ERA of 2.78. This is a great sign for the New York Yankees.
On the opposite side, the Twins will start the 3-3 Dylan Bundy. Bundy has struggled recently and has an ERA of 5.57 this season. With such a tough task in front of him, this will be a tall task for the Twins. Bundy will have to stop a team that has a batting average of .245 this season. Still, we believe with the momentum from yesterday, the Twins will win this one.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers – 8:00 PM ET
This series has been a back and forth battle, currently tied at 2-2. The Lightning has won two straight games after losing two in a row to begin the series. Now, they’ll head back on the road to face the New York Rangers. If they can get a win here, they’ll lead the series and put the Rangers on the brink of elimination. Brayden Point is still listed as day-to-day.
The New York Rangers have somewhat collapsed defensively. In Game 4, they allowed the Lightning to score four goals and lost the game 4-1. Tonight, back in their home arena, they need to get a fast start against Tampa Bay. The last thing they can afford is letting the Lightning dictate the pace of the game. We expect the Lightning to pull off a win here, -125.
Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels – 9:38 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels are set for their final game of the series. At the moment, Boston has won all three games. Nick Pivetta, who struggled early in the season, now has a record of 5-4. Pivetta’s ERA of 3.50 will definitely help him against the batters of the Angels tonight.
Taking the mound for the Los Angeles Angels is Shohei Ohtani, who is 3-4 this season. Although Ohtani has performed well, his team has lost 14 games in a row so far. They fired their manager in hopes to turn the team around but have since lost two games. Hopefully, with Ohtani on the mound, the Angels can claim a win today at -130.
