Here’s an overview of some of the top games in sports being played on May 12. Today, we’re taking a closer look at five games from the NBA, NHL, and Major League Baseball.
Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers – 7:00 PM ET
Game 6 between the Heat and the 76ers begins tonight, with the Heat leading 3-2. Miami notched a huge win over the 76ers in Game 5, winning 120-85. They’ll look to implement the same game plan tonight. If they can overwhelm the 76ers offensively, their defense can take care of the rest.
To avoid elimination, the 76ers need to play the best basketball they can. Embiid should be good to go tonight but is still listed on the day-to-day list. This will be the last game the 76ers play at home in this series, so a win is needed. James Harden and Tyrese Maxey need to step up and earn a win for their team.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7:30 PM ET
Toronto has put Tampa Bay on the verge of elimination now, leading the series 3-2. If they eliminate them tonight, they’ll get some much-deserved rest. Game 5 resulted in a 4-3 win for the Maple Leafs, however, they now have to return to Tampa Bay. They were able to beat the Lightning on their home ice in Game 3.
On the brink of being eliminated, the Lightning has to produce more offense today. If they can’t, they’ll find themselves staying in Tampa Bay and not continuing through the playoffs. As a team, the Lightning average 3.48 goals per game. However, their most impressive stat is that they allow an average of 2.78 goals per game. We’ll take the Lightning to win Game 6.
New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox – 8:10 PM ET
Although this isn’t a playoff game, it’s still one of the most entertaining to watch tonight. The Yankees have some of the best batters in Major League Baseball. This was evident in their 5-3 win over Toronto yesterday. Making his first start of the season is Luis Gil, which is slightly concerning. However, the Yankees batting can make up for any mistakes.
The White Sox will send the 2-2 Vince Velasquez onto the mound. Velasquez has an ERA of 3.97 over the course of 22.2 innings pitched. Chicago has been impressive over the course of their last five games, winning four of them. It might be a shocker, but we think the White Sox will win this game.
Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks – 9:30 PM ET
Moving back to basketball we have a game between the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks. Phoenix leads the series 3-2 but is, unfortunately, playing on the road. They won their last game against the Mavericks with an impressive 110-80 victory. The question is, can the Suns eliminate the Mavericks on their home court tonight?
The injury report is actually clear for tonight’s game, which is quite surprising. Doncic and the rest of the Mavericks will have to play airtight defense tonight. We’ve seen them do this in the past, especially in their Game 3 win over Phoenix. This is a tough call with Phoenix -2, but we think the Suns will end the series today.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – 10:10 PM ET
Our final game of the day is the Philadelphia Phillies versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies, 14-17, will face the Dodgers after a 2-1 series win over the Mariners. Taking the mound for Philadelphia tonight is the 1-3 Zack Wheeler. Wheeler has pitched 26.1 innings allowing 24 hits but only a single home run.
The Dodgers will send out one of the best pitchers in its rotation, Tyler Anderson. Anderson has a record of 3-0, pitching 22.2 innings and throwing 22 strikeouts. The pitching of the Dodgers didn’t do too well yesterday though, allowing five runs to the Pirates. We think the Dodgers will rally back and win tonight.
