Dallas Stars Travel to Toronto To Face the Maple Leafs

The Dallas Stars will be traveling to the Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday evening to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in a non-conference matchup.

The Stars are currently fifth in the Central Division (32-21-3, 67 points), while the Maple Leafs are sitting at third in the Central Division (37-16-5, 79 points) as of this writing. This is the first of two games against one another, with the second match scheduled for April 7 in Dallas. 

These teams are both stepping up a bit this season, so we should be for an interesting matchup. Let’s look at the Stars and the Maple Leafs a little bit more to figure out the best team to bet on.

These offenses have been at two completely different levels as a whole; Dallas is averaging 2.91 goals on 30.6 shot attempts this season, while Toronto is scoring 3.71 goals per game on 34.6 shots so far.

Center Joe Pavelski has been leading the Stars this season. He is tied for 22nd in the league in points as he has recorded 59 points (22 goals, 37 assists) and has scored five points in the last five games.

Center Auston Matthews has been dominating on the ice so far this season. He leads the entire sport in goals and fifth in the NHL in points as he has 76 points (44 goals, 32 assists) while finishing with eight points in his previous four games. 

Petr Mrazek will be bumped up to the starting goalie for Toronto due to Campbell’s emergence on Injured Reserve. He has been struggling a bit as he is 10-5-0 but allowing 3.44 goals and an 88.4 save percentage. Dallas has Jake Oettinger inside of the net; he is 19-7-1 this season with a 92.2 save percentage and is giving up 2.30 goals.

As a team, the Stars are giving up 2.86 goals allowed with 30.8 shots, while the Maple Leafs are allowing 3.02 goals given up with 30.6 shot attempts against them.

The injury to Jack Campbell is going to be a huge problem for Toronto as they were already struggling inside of the net this season and now are looking for their backup to play important games.

Scoring the puck as of late has been a lot closer than expected as Dallas scored 3.8 goals in their last five games while Toronto is averaging four goals in their previous five games.
