Associated Press AP Top 25 Poll Update
The newly minted AP Top 25 poll is now out for men’s college basketball, and there was quite a bit of movement within the poll.
Below we take a look at the movers and the teams who fell. This is a poll where not a ton of movement happened overall.
Purdue Boilermakers the New #1 This Week in AP Poll
After Duke fell to Ohio State in the Big Ten/ACC challenge, that opened up the door for Purdue to take center stage and grab the top spot. They did just that by being voted this week’s #1, unanimously.
It is a great day to be a fan of the Purdue basketball team, and we’ve been following them all season. The Boilermakers have won 8 games so far this season, including two last week against Florida State and Iowa. And now they’re ranked No 1 in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time ever! It’s an amazing feeling to watch them succeed and it makes me think about what other teams could do if they put their mind to it like Purdue has.
It is the first time that Purdue has been voted to the top spot in men’s basketball. They had been ranked in the AP poll 379 times before but never as the top spot.
Now, they look to hold that spot for a while as they are only the underdog in one game remaining on their schedule. The Big Ten is always a tough slate to run through, so there will be losses, but for this Purdue team, it will be all about getting to March as a #1 seed. Purdue was the 59th team in NCAA history to reach #1 on the AP Poll.
