NFL Week 17 Outlook; Sunday, Jan. 2, 12:00 PM CST
The 17th week of the NFL season has arrived. We have no Thursday Night Football but 15 games on Sunday, which is epic. In Week 18, all 16 games will occur on Sunday. There are countless games with playoff implications this week, which should make for some exciting football.
Before you place your bets, you better prepare to win. We have a lot of data to look at this week, so let’s not waste the stats. Here is your Week 17 betting outlook!
Jaguars are in First, for the Draft
Since firing head coach Urban Meyer, the Jacksonville Jaguars have dropped both of their games, extending their losing streak to seven. The Jags outgained the Jets 384-373 in total yards last Sunday, but they also had the game’s only turnover on a fumble. After trailing by five with 1:47 remaining, the Jaguars went 74 yards down the field to the Jets’ one-yard line before Trevor Lawrence stopped the clock with a spike and then an incomplete pass to seal their defeat.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are in line to pick first in the 2022 draft, with the worst mark in the NFL. The Patriots are 3-5 at home this season, while the Jags are 0-7 on the road. New England is 9-6 against the spread and has a 7-8 over/record, while Jacksonville is 4-11 ATS and has an over/under record of 4-11.
Jacksonville Jaguars Travel to New England to Face the Patriots
On Sunday, the New England Patriots (9-6) will play the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-13). The Patriots are tied with the Buffalo Bills at 9-6 in the AFC East, but due to having a worse division record, they currently sit in second place. Despite losing two straight games, the Patriots remain in playoff position at No. 6 in the AFC.
The Patriots have lost the past two weeks by giving up running yardage, not being efficient on offense, and losing the turnover battle. This is not how we expect a Bill Belichick-coached team to play football.
This is a perfect game to get back on the right track against a bad Jaguars team. Jacksonville’s franchise is a mess, and if New England plays better, they will cover.
The Patriots are -15.5, but 77% of bettors like this side of the line. The way football scoring works, New England will likely need to win by 17 points. 68% of bettors are going with the over of 41.5.
