MLB Best Bets for October 18, 2022

It’s another great day for baseball betting! As one series closes, another opens on Tuesday’s MLB playoff schedule.

Cleveland Guardians at New York Yankees – 7:07 PM ETguardians vs yankees baseball betting

Considering yesterday’s game was postponed, there’s a heightened sense of excitement today. The Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees should finally finish their series. The pitchers have changed from the ones announced yesterday as well, which is interesting.

Aaron Civale was first announced as the pitcher for yesterday’s game. However, they’ve decided to make a move and have yet to announce the new starter. Whoever they choose better be ready to face the Yankees batters.

The New York Yankees went from starting Jameson Taillon to Nestor Cortes. Cortes is a much better option to close this game so we’re not shocked by the move. This season, Cortes has a record of 12-4 with a 2.44 ERA. He should be able to help close this game for the Yankees.

Between these two teams, the Guardians have the better group of batters. They have an overall batting average of .254, one of the best in the league. However, the New York Yankees have a far better on-base percentage at .325.

Our choice for this one is the New York Yankees, who should win the series at home tonight. They come into this game as -170 favorites and have a 57-24 record at home.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Diego Padres – 8:03 PM ETphillies vs padres baseball betting

A game that several people will tune into is the Philadelphia Phillies at San Diego Padres. The Phillies come in fresh off a series win over the Atlanta Braves. With another tough team in front of them, the Phillies look to get off to a fast start tonight.

Their batters will definitely help them do this as the Phillies have a team batting average of .253. They rank higher than the Padres in this category but will need more than just strong batting to win. They’ll need a pitcher that can contend with the Padres batting lineup as well.

Getting the start on the mound for the Phillies is Zack Wheeler. Wheeler posted a record of 12-7 during the regular season with a 2.82 ERA. Opposite of him is Yu Darvish, who posted a 16-8 record with a 3.10 ERA. Each of these pitchers has a lot of experience under their belt as well.

The San Diego Padres will need quite a bit of help from their batters tonight. They have an overall team batting average of .241 this season. They have an on-base percentage of .318, which ranks slightly higher than the Phillies’ .317.

The Padres are playing at home tonight as well, where they have a record of 44-37. As -130 favorites, several would likely recommend taking the Padres at home. We, however, would rather go with the Philadelphia Phillies at +110 on the road.

This is likely to be a long series but we believe the Phillies will strike first. They have the better batting team and Wheeler should be able to slow the Padres’ batters.
