The Phoenix Suns Travel to Memphis to Duel with the Grizzlies

On Friday night, the No.1 team in the Western Conference will face the No.2 team. We could easily be watching a preview of the Western Conference Finals here. The Phoenix Suns, with over 60 wins already, will look to earn another one here. However, they’re facing one of the most potent offenses in the NBA. Out of all the games on Friday, this will be a “must-watch.”

The Memphis Grizzlies have had an incredible season, and it’s only getting better. At the number two spot, they’re following the Suns into the NBA playoffs. Although a win would be great for bragging rights, the Grizzlies won’t lose much if they take a loss. They have a strong lead on the Golden State Warriors, so there isn’t much to worry about. Still, they’ll try to take down Phoenix.

Each of these teams has a top-three scoring offense in the NBA. The Suns come in at No.2, averaging 115.34 points per game. The good thing about Phoenix is their defense is just as good as their offense. On average, the Suns only allow 106.91 points per game, ranking 8th in the NBA. They’ll need all the defense they can get as they take on the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies’ offense is ranked third in the NBA, averaging 115.31 points per game. The similarities offensively between them and Phoenix are uncanny. However, where they differ is on the defensive side of the ball. The Grizzlies’ defense ranks 12th in the NBA, allowing an average of 109.31 points per game. Although it’s not much more, it could be the opening Phoenix needs.

The Phoenix Suns last played the Grizzlies in December of 2021. Phoenix came into the game as 7.5-point favorites and was playing at home. The Suns lost the game, 113-114, and obviously failed to cover the spread. The question that needs to be answered now is whether this game will be the same way. We think the answer to that question is no. 

It’s important to note that although we think the Suns will win this time, the spread is a different concern. Phoenix will likely come in as the favorite again here by a similar amount. Between these two teams, the Grizzlies are much better at covering spreads. Phoenix, at the moment, is 42-33, while the Grizzlies are 49-26 ATS. Memphis is also playing at home in this game.

Betting on the total is tough because each team has a relatively good defense. However, the last time these two played, the total went over. In most of their games this year, the total has gone over for each team. Because of this, we’ll stick with the theme and take the over.
