San Antonio Spurs Travel to Houston to Face the Rockets

The San Antonio Spurs are well on their way to building a strong team. Although it could take a few seasons, they already have one bright spot, Dejounte Murray. In a game against the Trail Blazers, Murray put up 28 points.

They won the game with ease and previously beat the Golden State Warriors. On Monday, they’ll put their offense to the test against the Houston Rockets.

The Houston Rockets have been eliminated from playoff contention but are pressing on. They’re a young team with a lot of building to do, but they have a good base.

Not long ago, they took down the Washington Wizards, 115-97. In this dominant showing, the Rockets displayed their offensive ability. When they face San Antonio, they’ll need to be much better defensively.

The San Antonio Spurs have the eighth-best offense in the NBA, averaging 112.65 points per game. When they head to face the Rockets, they’ll be happy to find that they’re taking on the 30th-ranked defense.

Considering the Rockets’ defense is so poor, the Spurs will be in a good position to win this game. However, they can’t find themselves underestimating the Rockets. 

The Houston Rockets allow an average of 118.17 points per game. Although this is a league-worst statistic, they’ve found ways to win games. In a recent win over the Lakers, they gave up 130 points but scored 139.

What the Rockets like to do is outscore opponents; their focus isn’t necessarily on defense. This has been a reason for their wins as well as their losses.

San Antonio Spurs at Houston Rockets Betting Prediction

The Spurs are likely going to come into this game as relatively heavy favorites. We say this because we can use previous games as a betting guide in this one.

The last time these two teams played each other was February 4, 2022. The Spurs came into the game as 7.5-point favorites but easily won the game 131-106. We believe the outcome will be similar here. 

The Spurs have more wins on the road than they do at home, especially against the spread. At the time of writing, San Antonio is 20-15-1 ATS on the road. The Houston Rockets, on the other hand, are 14-22 against the spread at home.

Their defense also ranks among the worst in the NBA. Most importantly, the San Antonio Spurs are 7-2-1 ATS in their last ten versus Houston.    

By following their recent trends this season, we believe the total will likely go over. In their last three games against each other, the total has gone over twice. Look for the Spurs to get a win over the Rockets, covering the spread, with the total going over.
