AP Poll Top Spot is NCAA Gonzaga Bulldogs Basketball

Gonzaga – West Coast Conference, 20-21 record 31-1

Last season Gonzaga opened their season with victories over four ranked opponents in their first seven games but didn’t face another one until the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA tournament.

The Bulldogs have a similar schedule in their upcoming slate, playing four teams in the top 14 with three of those in the top ten in their opening nine games, and unless other teams make an appearance in the polls, their December 4th clash with 14th ranked Alabama in Seattle will be Gonzaga’s final contest against a ranked team.

Gonzaga will take on two other college basketball blue bloods, second-ranked UCLA and ninth rated Duke, on neutral site games at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas during Thanksgiving week. The game against UCLA will be a rematch of the teams’ thrilling national semifinal, where Gonzaga ended the Bruins’ improbable March Madness run with a 93-90 overtime win.

Head coach Mark Few begins his 22nd season at Gonzaga and has led the Bulldogs to 21 NCAA appearances but is still looking for his first national championship. He’ll have another great shot at a title with the return of leading scorer and rebounder Drew Timme who will lead a strong recruiting class that included seven-footer Chet Holmgren, who is expected to start alongside Timme.
