Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes Betting Preview

Will Alex Ovechkin or Sebastian Aho Figure Out How to Lead Their Respective Team to Victory?

The Washington Capitals will head to the PNC Arena on Friday evening to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in a divisional matchup. This will be the third of four games against one another during the regular season as Washington picked up a 4-0 victory last time they faced off back on March 3. However, they will play twice in an 11-day span as they face off on March 28 in Washington as well. The Capitals are fourth in the Metropolitan Division (32-18-10, 74 points) while the Hurricanes are leading the Metropolitan Division (41-13-5, 87 points) this season.

These teams have been playing well and could be meeting in a playoff matchup so let’s take a  closer look into both squads to determine where we should be betting this game.

Washington Capitals’ Defense Should Be the Difference Maker in this Game

The Capitals have been a great team offensively as they are averaging 3.25 goals on 31.2 shot attempts per game. Veteran left winger Alex Ovechkin is dominating this season as he is fifth in the sport in goals and seventh in the NHL in points as he has posted 72 points (36 goals, 36 assists) with six points scored in the previous four games. On the defensive side of the ice, Washington has allowed 2.78 goals on 29.2 shots per game this season. Goalie Ilya Samsonov has struggled a bit in the net as he is 17-9-4 with a .901 save percentage and 2.96 goals against average.

The Carolina Hurricanes are solid on the offensive side of the ice this season as they are scoring 3.34 goals on 33.7 shots per game. They are being led by center Sebastian Aho as he is 21st in the league in points as he has scored 61 points (27 goals, 34 assists) with at least one point scored in 12 of his previous 13 games. Defensively, the Hurricanes are giving up 2.36 goals on 29 shot attempts thus far. Goaltender Frederik Andersen has been the winningest in the league as he is 30-8-2 with 2.06 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.

Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes Betting Prediction

Washington has covered the puck line in the previous two games against Carolina this season so they have the formula to do it once again here. The difference comes offensively, as in their previous five games, the Capitals are averaging 4.2 goals while the Hurricanes are averaging 2.6 goals in that span.

Looking at their against the spread records this season, Washington is 32-28 while Carolina is 29-30. All in all, go with the Washington Capitals to cover the puck line at home in this game against an extremely difficult goaltender.
