NFL Week 17 Recap

Week 17 of the 2022-23 NFL season was unusual. Nine games were decided by at least ten points, with a surprising number of blowouts. The current season’s theme had been many games decided by one-score margins. However, five games were won by at least 17 points over the weekend, with the biggest being the 31-point win by the Detroit Lions. 

Of those five games, four winners were betting favorites. There were four other underdogs coming out on top in Week 17. The Saints beating the Eagles on the road 20-10 was probably the week’s biggest upset. The other underdogs were Cleveland beating Washington 24-10. Then there was Seattle downing the Jets 24-10, and the Steelers upsetting the Ravens 16-13. 

Playoff Contenders Finishing Strong

The Los Angeles Chargers won their fourth straight game last week against the Rams 31-10 to cover the spread for the third time in the previous four games. It was their biggest point margin of the year, and they could reach the 11-win mark with a victory over the Broncos on Sunday. This team is finally reaching its peak and isn’t a squad anyone wants to face in the postseason.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are another team making some noise in the latter part of the season. They got a big win over the Houston Texans 31-10 on Sunday and have a 6-2 record since losing a season-high five straight games. A fifth straight against the Titans in Week 18 will give them the AFC South title.

The Packers are also on a roll after their fourth straight win, 41-17, over the Minnesota Vikings, who may be the worst 12-4 team the league has seen in many years. They were three-point underdogs to the Packers and failed to cover the spread for the fourth straight contest. Green Bay needs a win at home against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night to punch their ticket to the postseason.
