Wild Card Recap: 49ers vs Seahawks & Jaguars vs Chargers

NFL Wild Card Week Recap

Monday night capped off the final game of Wild Card Weekend, which featured four games decided by one score and a couple of blowouts. The playoffs are now down to eight teams, with next weekend’s winner advancing to the conference championships.

Niners Rout Seahawks

The weekend’s first game featured the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium as nine-point favorites. The Seahawks hung around for the first two quarters and, to everyone’s surprise, went into the locker room with a 17-16 lead at halftime.

The big play for the Seahawks was a 50-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to DK Metcalf. However, after the Niners scored on the second half’s opening drive, things quickly went downhill for Seattle.

On the ensuing possession, the Seahawks drove to the Niners’ 19-yard line, where on 3rd and 14, Smith was sacked and coughed up the ball, which Nick Bosa recovered.

San Francisco went on to score 18 straight points to seal the victory. Rookie Brock Purdy had four touchdown passes to lead the Niners, who will host the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Round next Sunday.

Jags Rally To Beat Chargers

Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence engineered the third-biggest comeback in playoff history to bring the Jaguars back from 27 points down to beat the Los Angeles Chargers 31-30.

The Chargers’ offense was shut down in the second half and probably missed their leading receiver Mike Evans, who was injured last week in a meaningless game in Week 18 against the Denver Broncos.

TE Gerald Everett tried to pick up the slack with six receptions for 109 yards for the LA, but it wasn’t enough, as they scored just three second-half points. Jacksonville travels to face the Kansas City Chiefs next Saturday.
