History of the Orlando City FC
Orlando City SC is a professional soccer team based in Orlando, Florida. The team was founded in 2010 as the Orlando City Soccer Club. In addition, they played in the lower-tier United Soccer League (USL) until joining Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2015.
The team’s origins can be traced back to the Austin Aztex, a USL team based in Austin, Texas. In 2010, Phil Rawlins, a British businessman, purchased the team and relocated it to Orlando. Finally, this became the Orlando City Soccer Club.
In its inaugural USL season in 2011, the team won the Commissioner’s Cup. This was awarded to the team with the best regular season record in the league. Orlando went on to win two more Commissioner’s Cups in 2012 and 2013. They also won the USL Pro Championship in 2011 and 2013.
In 2015, the team joined MLS as an expansion team. Therefore, it became the league’s 21st team. The team made an immediate impact in its debut season. They finished in seventh place in the Eastern Conference and narrowly missed the playoffs.
In 2017, the team moved into its new home, Orlando City Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium located in downtown Orlando. The stadium has a capacity of 25,500 and features state-of-the-art amenities. In addition, it includes a giant video board and a fan plaza.
Orlando City FC’s Struggles
