Vegas Knights

History of the Vegas Golden Knights

Established in 2017, the Vegas Golden Knights are a professional ice hockey team based in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are part of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). As a new team in the league, the Golden Knights have overall quickly made their mark in the NHL.

The idea of an NHL team in Las Vegas had been in the works for years before the Golden Knights were established. Bill Foley, a businessman, and avid hockey fan, was the driving force behind bringing the team to Vegas. In 2016, the NHL announced that they had granted Foley an expansion team. In the end, this made the Golden Knights the first professional sports team in Las Vegas.

The team’s name and logo were unveiled in November 2016. The Golden Knights name was inspired by the Army’s parachute team, the Golden Knights. They are based at nearby Nellis Air Force Base. The team’s logo features a knight’s helmet with a “V” to represent Vegas on the front. The colors are steel gray, gold, red, and black. Meanwhile, the gold represents the bright lights of the Vegas Strip.

Inaugural Season

The Golden Knights had their inaugural season in 2017-2018. In addition, they made history by becoming the first expansion team to reach the Stanley Cup Finals since 1968. Led by their star goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury, and head coach Gerard Gallant, the Golden Knights made a stunning run to the Finals. However, they ultimately fell to the Washington Capitals in five games.

Despite not winning the Stanley Cup in their first season, the Golden Knights quickly became a beloved team in Las Vegas. In the end, they gained fans across the league with their exciting style of play and never-give-up attitude. In their second season, the Golden Knights finished first in their division. Finally, they reached the playoffs once again. Although they were knocked out in the first round, the team’s success on the ice continued to fuel the enthusiasm of fans.

The Golden Knights have quickly become known for their strong community involvement as well. In the aftermath of the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017, the team was a source of comfort and support for the city. Players visited hospitals and first responders and dedicated their season to the victims and their families.

As the Golden Knights continue to make their mark in the NHL, fans can look forward to more exciting moments both on and off the ice. With a talented team, and dedicated fans, the future is bright for the Vegas Golden Knights.
