MLB Best Bets for August 4, 2022

It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Thursday’s schedule.

Oakland Athletics vs. Los Angeles Angels – 4:07 PM ETathletics vs angels baseball betting

To begin our best bets, we’re going to take a look at the Oakland Athletics at Los Angeles Angels. The Oakland Athletics have a record of 40-66 this season with a 23-33 record on the road. The good news for the Athletics is that the Angels have nearly the same record. On the mound for Oakland is Paul Blackburn, who has a 6-6 record this season.

Getting the start for the Angles is Janson Junk, who has only pitched six innings this season. Junk allowed five hits through the six innings he pitched and will likely struggle tonight. The Angels have a slight edge at the plate where they have a batting average of .229. Still, we’ll take the Athletics to win this one on the road at +105.

Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets – 7:10 PM ETbraves vs mets baseball betting

Later tonight we’ll see the 63-42 Atlanta Braves face the 66-38 New York Mets. The Braves are second in the NL East, following closely behind the Mets. These two will begin a five-game series tonight that could see the Braves pass up the Mets. Today, the 13-4 Kyle Wright will get the start for the Braves. Wright’s ERA of 2.93 puts him at the top of the Braves rotation.

The New York Mets are starting one of their best pitchers as well, Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco has a record of 11-4 this season with an ERA of 3.79. Where the Mets have the advantage is at the plate, this season they have a team batting average of .257. With the Mets starting Carrasco and having the batting advantage, we’ll take them -120.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Minnesota Twins – 7:40 PM ET

The Toronto Blue Jays rank second in the AL East with a record of 58-46. Today, they’ll head to Minnesota to begin their four-game series against the Minnesota Twins. Toronto is starting Alek Manoah, one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball. With a record of 11-5, Manoah has an ERA of 2.43. The Blue Jays also have a team batting average of .264.

The Minnesota Twins will need to pull out all of the stops as they face the Blue Jays. Going against Toronto’s batters is hard enough but facing Alek Manoah is even worse. Getting the start for the Twins is the 6-3 Sonny Gray. Gray has a record of 6-3 with a 3.41 ERA over the span of 74.0 innings. Still, with Manoah on the mound, we have to take the Blue Jays at -125.

Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals – 7:45 PM ETcubs vs cardinals baseball betting

After losing three games in a row, the Chicago Cubs head into Game 2 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Last night’s game against St. Louis ended in a 6-0 loss for the Cubs who have fallen to 41-61. They’ve yet to name a starting pitcher tonight but that shouldn’t make much of a difference. It’s important to note that this will be the second game of a doubleheader.

The Cardinals get the added benefit of playing at home tonight. This season, the Cardinals have a 30-20 record at home and a 55-48 overall record. Considering they lead the Cubs in both batting and pitching, the Cardinals are the easy pick. On the mound is Jose Quintana, Quintana has posted a 3.50 ERA this year. We’ll go with the St. Louis Cardinals (-160) at home tonight.

Boston Red Sox vs. Kansas City Royals – 8:10 PM ET

The Boston Red Sox have won three of their last five games, improving their record to 53-53. They have a road record of 27-26 as they head to Kansas City to face the Royals. Nick Pivetta has seen a lot of action this season, pitching 118.2 innings. He’ll get the start again today and try to improve his 8-8 record and ERA of 4.47.

The Kansas City Royals are sending out the 2-6 Kris Bubic to face the Red Sox batters. Bubic is in trouble considering the Red Sox have one of the best batting groups in the league. As a team, Boston is batting .252 with an on-base percentage of .313. Look for the Red Sox to get the win on the road at -135.
