MLB Best Bets for September 18, 2022

It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Sunday’s schedule.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves – 1:35 PM ET

With an 80-65 record, the Philadelphia Phillies are third in the NL East. However, they’ve lost their last three games, two of which were to the Atlanta Braves. This series will come to a close tonight and on the mound is Bailey Falter, who has a 5-3 record. Falter has an ERA of 3.80 and the Phillies have a team batting average of .255.

The Atlanta Braves have a 90-55 record and currently rank second in the NL East. They’re only a few games behind the New York Mets and a win here could see them jump to first. The 10-5 Spencer Strider will get the start on the mound today. Strider has an ERA of 2.72 and has thrown 192 strikeouts in 125.2 innings. We’ll take the Braves at -267 tonight.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets – 1:40 PM ET

After three straight losses to the New York Mets, the Pittsburgh Pirates are 55-91 this season. On the mound tonight is Johan Oviedo, who has a 3-2 record with a 3.34 ERA. Although Oviedo has had a good season, the Pirates have really poor batting at .221.

The New York Mets come into this game with a team batting average of .257. With one of the best batting groups in the league, the Mets should be able to win this game. They’re also starting Jacob deGrom, who is 5-2 with an ERA of 2.01. Look for the Mets at -480 to pull off another win at home.

Cincinnati Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals – 2:15 PM ET

The Cincinnati Reds have had a tough season, currently 57-89. Last night, they lost 1-0 in the 11th inning to none other than the St. Louis Cardinals. That marks three straight losses for the Reds to the Cardinals after opening the series with a win. On the mound tonight is Luis Cessa, whose 5.25 ERA won’t help them get a win.

Former New York Yankees pitcher Jordan Montgomery will get the start for the Cardinals. Again, the Cardinals come into this game as heavy favorites, and for good reason. Montgomery has a record of 8-4 with a 3.20 ERA this season. The Cardinals also have the better batting lineup so we’ll take them at -285 tonight.

Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs – 2:20 PM ET

The Colorado Rockies pulled off a 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs last night. With an overall record of 63-82, the Rockies rank last in the NL West. Getting the start tonight is Ryan Feltner, who has a 2-8 record and an ERA of 6.12. Although they have a pretty poor pitcher on the mound, the Rockies have a better batting group.

The Chicago Cubs have a team batting average of .241, slightly lower than the Rockies’ .256. On the mound for the Cubs tonight is the 1-1 Javier Assad who has an ERA of 2.53. The Cubs might be starting the better pitcher but we’ll take the Rockies on the road +110.

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks – 3:10 PM ET

Our final game of the day is between two NL West teams. The San Diego Padres have a record of 80-66 and have already beat the Diamondbacks twice. On the mound today is Yu Darvish, who has a 14-7 record with a 3.16 ERA. He’s thrown 175 strikeouts in 176.2 innings, giving the Padres a strong chance to win this game.

The Diamondbacks won the first game of this series 4-0 but have fallen behind since then. Getting the start tonight is Ryne Nelson, who has only pitched 13 innings. Arizona’s batters have a team average of .231, slightly worse than the Padres. We’ll go with San Diego on the road at -155.
