MLB Best Bets for September 21, 2022

It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Wednesday’s schedule.

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves – 12:20 PM ETnationals vs braves baseball betting

The Washington Nationals have a record of 51-97 heading into this game. On the road, they’ve gone 27-47 and will start Paolo Espino in tonight’s game. Espino has a record of 0-7 with an ERA of 4.24, which doesn’t give us much confidence. It also doesn’t help that they’re coming off of three straight losses, two of which were to Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves are 93-55 this season, ranking second in the NL East. With a few games separating them and the New York Mets, a win here could be crucial. On the mound is the 1-3 Bryce Elder, who has an ERA of 3.67. We’ll go with the Braves at home over the Nationals -267.

Boston Red Sox vs. Cincinnati Reds – 6:40 PM ETred sox vs reds baseball betting

The Boston Red Sox come into tonight’s game as -170 favorites. On the mound is Connor Seabold, however, who has an 0-2 record with an 11.91 ERA. How they’re actually the favorites here is shocking considering who they have on the mound. Last night, the Red Sox were able to beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-3. We don’t think it will be the same outcome tonight.

With a 29-44 record at home, the Cincinnati Reds are +143 tonight. Getting the start on the mound is Chase Anderson, who has a 1-3 record with an ERA of 6.43. Between the starting pitchers, the Reds definitely have the upper hand. Unfortunately, they haven’t performed too well at the plate. Still, we’ll go with the home team +143 over the Red Sox.

Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays – 6:40 PM ETastros vs rays baseball betting

As the best team in the AL West, the Houston Astros have a lot riding on this game. They have a 98-51 record, only a few wins away from 100. To ensure a win, the Astros are starting Lance McCullers Jr., who has a 3-1 record this year. His ERA of 2.34 over the course of 34.2 innings gives them a great chance to win.

The Tampa Bay Rays are sending out Corey Kluber, who is 10-9 with a 4.44 ERA. The Rays have lost to the Astros twice already and we think a third loss is incoming. Houston has the better pitcher and the better overall team. Take the Astros -130 over the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Yankees – 7:05 PM ETpirates vs yankees baseball betting

Yesterday’s game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees was entertaining. The Pirates battled as hard as they could but lost 9-8 in the end. Tonight, with Roansy Contreras on the mound, the Pirates are hoping to come away with a win. Contreras has a 5-4 record with an ERA of 3.24, which is slightly better than the Yankees starter.

Where the Yankees have the edge in this game is at the plate, where they’re batting .240. Compared to the Pirates’ .221, we’d say it’s a significant advantage. On the mound for the Pirates is Luis Severino, who has a 5-3 record with a 3.45 ERA. We’re actually going to go with the upset and take the Pirates +240 over the Yankees.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres – 9:40 PM ETcardinals vs padres baseball betting

With a record of 87-62, the St. Louis Cardinals lead the NL Central. Yesterday, they suffered a 5-0 loss to the San Diego Padres and are looking to bounce back. On the mound today is Miles Mikolas, who has an 11-12 record this year with a 3.46 ERA. They have a slight edge at the plate, however, batting .254 compared to the Padres’ .241.

After a big win last night, the Padres are hoping to double down tonight. They have a record of 82-66 and currently rank second in the NL West. The 7-9 Blake Snell will get the start on the mound for the Padres tonight. With Snell on the mound, the better pick in this game is the Cardinals +105.
