It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Thursday’s schedule.
Washington Nationals vs. St. Louis Cardinals – 1:15 PM ET
The first game of the day is an early one between the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals. The Nationals, currently 48-89, are coming off of two straight losses to the Cardinals. Tonight, they’ll send out the 7-9 Josiah Gray, who has an ERA of 4.91 this season.
The St. Louis Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright out to the mound tonight. Wainwright has a record of 10-9 this season with a 3.21 ERA. He’ll have to be careful against the batters of the Nationals, who have a .250 average. The Cardinals, however, have a batting average of .257 and should win tonight’s game. We’ll take St. Louis at -305 tonight.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs – 2:20 PM ET
After a huge 7-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Reds have moved to 54-80. Although it’s not a glamorous record, the Reds might have a chance to move up in the NL Central. The team in front of them is the Chicago Cubs, who only lead them by three games. On the mound for the Reds tonight is Luis Cessa, who has a 3-2 record and a 5.18 ERA.
The Chicago Cubs had a tough time stopping the Reds batters last night. They’ll likely have trouble again as the 1-5 Adrian Sampson takes the mound. Sampson’s ERA of 3.95 isn’t bad but he’s struggled when it comes to winning games. The Cubs have a slight edge over the Reds at the plate but we don’t think it’ll be enough to win. We’ll take the Reds at +122 here.
Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies – 6:45 PM ET
This evening we’ll see the continuation of the Miami Marlins at the Philadelphia Phillies. At the moment, the series is 2-0 in favor of the Phillies. The Marlins have lost nine games in a row, dropping their record to 55.80. The only good news is that the 12-7 Sandy Alcantara will get the start for the Marlins tonight. Alcantara has an ERA of 2.36 over the course of 190.2 innings.
The Philadelphia Phillies have a record of 75-61 and are third in the NL East. Tonight, they’ll start Kyle Gibson, who has a 9-6 record with a 4.48 ERA. The Phillies will have to win this game at the plate, where they have a batting average of .254. We’ll go with Philadelphia over Miami at -130.
San Francisco Giants vs. Milwaukee Brewers – 7:40 PM ET
After losing two games in a row to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants are 65-70 this season. The team has yet to decide who will take the mound tonight, so keep that in mind. They’ll face the Milwaukee Brewers, who are starting the 4-3 Freddy Peralta. San Francisco has a .234 team batting average, slightly under the Brewers.
The Brewers have lost three of their last five games this season. Still, they have an over .500 record at 71-65. They also have a 35-26 record at home, which is a good sign for us. With Peralta on the mound and the better batters, we’ll take Milwaukee.
Chicago White Sox vs. Oakland Athletics – 9:40 PM ET
Our final game of the night is between the Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics. The White Sox, with a record of 69-68, are coming off of a 9-6 win over the Seattle Mariners. On the mound tonight is Dylan Cease, one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball. Cease has a record of 13-6 with a 2.13 ERA. He faces some tough competition tonight, however.
The Oakland Athletics are starting JP Sears, who has a 5-1 record this season. His ERA of 2.37 puts him up towards the top when it comes to pitchers in MLB. The big difference here is the Athletics don’t have a strong batting group. As a team, Oakland has a .216 batting average, which is awful, especially compared to Chicago’s .259. Go with the White Sox at -190.
