What to Know

With the legalization of sports betting in Tennessee, Action 24/7 aims to provide the best betting options for Tennesseans. To help inform those in the Volunteer State of the betting options they may be unfamiliar with, we’ve put together this series to provide an introduction and overview of how to bet on specific sports.

The Commodores compete in 16 NCAA Division I sports, six sports on the men’s side and 10 on the women’s.

Vanderbilt Commodores Betting – Defending Baseball Champs

The Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team won the College World Series in 2014 and 2019 and were CWS runners-up in 2015. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no tournament was held in the summer of 2020, so for now, the Commodores are still the defending NCAA champions.

Vanderbilt has qualified for the NCAA postseason every year since 2006. The Commodores play their home games on campus at Hawkins Field, which has hosted seven regionals and six Super Regionals since 2010.

Notable Commodores baseball alumni include David Price, Mark Prior, Tony Kemp, Casey Weathers, Dansby Swanson, Pedro Alvarez, Sonny Gray, and Walker Buehler.

Vanderbilt Commodores Betting – Basketball is Rebuilding

Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball program hasn’t seen the same success as the baseball program, but it has made the NCAA Tournament 15 times and made it to the Sweet Sixteen six times. However, Vanderbilt has played in 11 National Invitation Tournaments, winning the tournament in 1990 and finishing as the runner-up in 1994.

Commodores men’s basketball alumni include Clyde Lee, Perry Wallace, Jeff Turner, and Festus Ezili.

The women’s basketball program has seen slightly more success than the men’s team, making it to the Elite Eight five times and the Final Four in 1993. It has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 27 times. The women’s team plays at Memorial Stadium, another on-campus venue.

Vanderbilt Commodores Betting – Football Needs a Fix

We’ll make no bones about it: Vanderbilt football has really struggled lately. The Commodores’ last winning season was in 2013 when they finished 9-4 and were ranked No. 24 in the Top 25 poll.

Part of that struggle comes from competing in the SEC, which has unquestionably been the best conference in college football for the last 20 years. The SEC has had at least one team in 14 of the last 20 national championship games. In 12 of those games, the SEC team emerged as the champion.

On a more positive note, Vanderbilt does have a 4-4-1 record in bowl games. The Commodores have also produced NFL quality talent, including such players as Corey Chavous, Jay Cutler, Billy Wade, Will Wolford, Casey Hayward, and Zach Cunningham.
