History of the San Jose Earthquakes

The San Jose Earthquakes are a professional soccer team based in San Jose, California. The team was founded in 1994 as the San Jose Clash, one of the inaugural teams of Major League Soccer (MLS). The team’s name was eventually changed to the San Jose Earthquakes in 1999. In the end, the team has since become one of the most successful franchises in MLS and the Western Conference’s history.

The San Jose Earthquakes have won two MLS Cup championships, in 2001 and 2003. Additionally, they have also won two Supporters’ Shields, awarded to the team with the best regular season record. The team has also won four Western Conference championships and one US Open Cup championship.

Notable Players

The team has had several notable players throughout its history, including Landon Donovan. Donovan played for the team from 2001 to 2004 and again in 2016. Next, there is Chris Wondolowski, who has played for the team since 2009 and is the all-time leading scorer in MLS history. Finally, there is Dwayne De Rosario, who played for the team from 2001 to 2005 and was eventually named MLS MVP in 2011.

The San Jose Earthquakes have played their home games at several different venues throughout their history. These include Spartan Stadium, Buck Shaw Stadium, and currently at PayPal Park.
