Sometimes, things don’t go as planned.

At other times things go haywire in a way you cannot predict. Last night was the first night of the NBA playoffs and was one of those nights where things went haywire. Injuries to Giannis and Ja Morant in game one of the playoffs may have changed the entire complexion of the NBA playoff picture.

More importantly, last night’s attempt to regain our parlay blog betting championship didn’t go well. We took the Grizzlies to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns to cover the spread against the LA Clippers, and we were wrong on both accounts.

However, the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks hit the over as expected, although with an entirely different winner than expected.

With an 0-1 record on parlays to start the week and a 1-2 record on individual picks, we’ve got the Stanley Cup on our minds and in our sights for today’s multi-game parlay. Let the greatest and toughest tournament in sports begin!

Edmonton Oilers over Los Angeles Kings (-189)

The McDavid’s won nine-straight games and fourteen of the last fifteen heading into the playoffs, including two wins against Los Angeles. The Kings went 5-5 in the last ten games of the regular season, with four of their victories coming against non-playoff teams.

The Oilers and Kings have split the season series 2-2, with both teams scoring wins at home and on the road.

Los Angeles won the first two meetings of the season, but these matchups were before the Oilers revamped their roster for the playoffs. We’re taking the McDavid’s to open the playoffs with a win in a first-round rematch from last season, seemingly destined to go seven games.

Minnesota Wild over Dallas Stars (+115)

The Minnesota Wild had a 21-13-7 record on the road this season, while the Dallas Stars had a 22-10-9 record on home ice.

Dallas won six straight games and went 8-2 in the last ten to close out the season. Minnesota struggled down the stretch losing three of the last five games and going 5-5 in the last ten.
The Stars and Wild split the season series 2-2, with both teams winning at home and on the road.

However, this game seems like one of those first games of the first round where an upset is likely. We’re taking the Wild to open the series by upsetting the Stars on the road.

Florida Panthers versus Boston Bruins Under 6.5 (-125)

The black-and-gold juggernaut (and parlay blog’s safety blanket) opens their pursuit of the Stanley Cup against the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers were one of the highest-scoring teams in the NHL this season and posted a 43-31-8 over/under record, while the Bruins had a 36-41-5 over/under record.

The Panthers and Bruins hit the over in all four games this season, combining to score at least seven goals in each game. However, the Panthers went 2-4-4 over/under in the last ten games of the season, while the Bruins went 6-4 over/under.

We expect defense to be tighter than in the previous four head-to-head matchups, the last of which was played on January 28, making us lean toward the under in this one.
