We’re still working through the first half of the NBA and NHL seasons. With a few big games scheduled today, let’s look at how we think three matches will play out.

Charlotte Hornets (+8.5) over Denver Nuggets

The Charlotte Hornets have officially lost seven games in a row, dropping their record to 7-22. Their most recent game was a 125-106 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Prior to that, they lost 141-134 in overtime to the Detroit Pistons. However, they average 110.1 points per game as a team, so they’re not an awful team.

The Denver Nuggets last game ended in a 126-108 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Prior to that, they were on a three-game winning streak. They have an 8-3 record at home with an overall record of 17-11. Although we think that the Nuggets will win this game, we’re going to take the Hornets +8.5.

Los Angeles Lakers (-5) over Washington Wizards

On the road today is the Washington Wizards, who are heading to Los Angeles. With a 3-12 record on the road this season, the Wizards have an overall record of 11-19. In total, this team has lost nine games in a row. They played the Los Angeles Lakers not long ago as well and ended up losing 130-119.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a record of 12-16 with a 7-7 record at home. They just beat the Denver Nuggets 126-108 but have only won two of their last five games. Averaging 115.4 points per game, the Lakers are led by Anthony Davis, who averages 27.4. Covering five points shouldn’t be too complicated for the Lakers tonight.

Calgary Flames (-175) over San Jose Sharks

It has been a rough five games for the Calgary Flames, who have lost each of them. Their most recent game was a 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. They’re not missing many players, but the team hasn’t done well over the last week. On average, they’re scoring just 2.90 goals per game, but their defense is pretty great.

The San Jose Sharks will be without three players. Luke Kunin is one of them. They’ve gone 2-3 over their last five games and have an overall record of 10-16-6. The big problem for the Sharks is that their defense has really struggled. On average, they’re giving up 3.47 goals per game this season. Go with the Flames on the road to take down the San Jose Sharks.
