College Football Bad Beat Boise State vs Wyoming | Action247

Saturday, November13, 2021Bad Beat Boise State -13.5 vs Wyoming

Much like last week, our bad beat of the week hits close to home for me. It comes from the blue turf of Boise State (-13.5) as they allowed Wyoming to backdoor cover for one of the most heartbreaking finishes in recent memory. Because I am a professional, I will do my best to keep emotions out of it. But just know this will hurt me. Let’s get into it.

Boise State essentially controlled this game from the beginning. Aside from a touchdown late in the second quarter, the Broncos defense never let Wyoming get into a rhythm on offense. Other than the touchdown drive, Wyoming never had a drive last more than seven plays. After that score, the game was very one-sided. Boise dominated time of possession and put up 16 unanswered points to go up 23-7. Honestly, before the last minute or so of the game, this was a snoozer. But the Broncos were well on their way to covering so I wasn’t complaining.

They kicked a field goal with 59 seconds left. That should have been the end right? Let Wyoming get the ball, run a couple plays, and we all go home happy. Well the gambling gods had a little more planned.

Cowboys QB Levi Williams was sacked on the first play of the drive. The next play he completed a pass to receiver Isaiah Neyor for five yards. No big deal right? Just one more play and we will cash our tickets. With just fourteen ticks left, Williams dropped back and fired a strike to Neyor at the 45 yard line. Neyor put a “move” on a Boise DB JL Skinner and it was a foot race to the endzone from there. I say “move” because it was more of a step to the right than an actual juke and Skinner still should have been able to bring him down. Anyway, he got by Skinner and out ran a few other defenders and was brought down as he broke the goal line. Just like that, the game was over. Wyoming kicked the backdoor off its hinges and covered the 13.5 with just four seconds left.

Wyoming got nearly half of their 156 passing yards on that one play. To go from hardly being able to move the ball to covering a nearly two touchdown spread on one play is sickening. This was one of those games that makes you question what you did in a past life to deserve this punishment. But you can’t give up just because of one horrific beat. That would be truly irresponsible.
