CYB College Football Picks: Going for a Winning Streak
Well, boys and girls, we finally did it. We finally broke our college football losing streak. I promised a no-loss November and I (kinda) kept my promise. 6-2-1 feels like a perfect day when you’ve been taking gut punches for the last couple weeks. We’re building on this momentum and turning it into a winning streak. Two-loss November rolls on. Let’s ride.
Kent State vs. Akron U74.5
We’re kicking off our locks with one of the sexiest games of the weekend. Obviously that’s a joke, but money won on the MAC is just as green as money won on the SEC. This might be a case of Vegas overreacting to last week’s MACtion. Last Tuesday Kent scored 30 in their loss to Central Michigan, but Akron put up a surprising 40 against Western Michigan. Even if both teams score that amount this week it will still go under. The Golden Flashes of Kent State will probably put up a 30 or 40 spot, but if that happens Akron would need to score at least 30. Yes, they just hung 40 last week but they have only scored more than 30 points three times this season. And one of those games was in week three against Bryant. The total has gone under five games in a row when these two meet in Akron. It has also gone under eight of their last 11 matchups, overall. I don’t see Akron being able to score enough to get the over. I like Kent to get a big lead and cruise the rest of the way.
Syracuse +11.5 vs. NC State
This feels like entirely too many points to give against a Syracuse team that has been a covering machine this season. They are tied for the best ATS record this season at 8-2. Plus, they just got smacked around last week by Louisville so they will be looking to put that game behind them. This will most likely be a defensive matchup as both teams rank just outside the top 20 in the nation in total defense. I’m not surprised the Wolfpack are home favorites because they have won eight straight games in their own barn, but the Orange tend to feel pretty comfortable on the road. They have covered four of their last five away from the Carrier Dome. They have also covered four of the last six against NC State. I just don’t see how you can bet against one of the best ATS teams in the nation, especially on a double-digit spread. I’m rolling with the Orange to cover in what will probably be a low-scoring game.
Utah -3 vs. Oregon
We’re capping things off with the biggest regular season PAC 12 game this season. The Ducks will put their playoff hopes on the line when they travel to Utah to take on the Utes. I’m siding with the home team here for a couple reasons. First off, I think they’re a better team right now. Since dropping two games in a row early in the season, they have won six of their last seven. Second, The PAC 12 needs Oregon to win so they can have a shot at getting a team into the playoff for the first time in five years. I’ve learned one thing when it comes to betting on college football: Find the worst thing that can happen to the PAC 12 and bet that. These two teams met in 2019 in the exact same situation with the roles reversed and Oregon played the spoiler. I doubt that head coach Kyle Whittingham has forgotten that. Utah has also just been playing better football. Yes, Oregon has one of the best wins of anyone in the country this year when they beat Ohio State, but they haven’t done much since then. They have only covered twice since that game back in week three. Utah is 4-2 ATS in their last six and I think they pick up another win here. The Utes will be the one playing spoilers this year for the Ducks and their own conference. The PAC 12 will be out of the playoff for the sixth year in a row. Back Utah to get it done at home.
The Rest of the Bunch:
Army vs. UMASS U56 USF +5.5 vs. Tulane Michigan -15 vs. Maryland MTSU -3.5 vs. Old Dominion Hawaii +2.5 vs. Colorado St.
We’ve got an ugly slate this weekend thanks to most good teams playing cupcakes, but these right here are winners. We’re about to get hot and your bookie knows it. He’ll be halfway to Mexico by the time the day comes to an end.
