Crush Your Bookie College Football Champ Week
I know what you were probably thinking. Will my favorite source of college football picks be back for the conference championships? Well don’t worry, boys and girls, I’ve got winners up my sleeve for one of the most important weeks of the season. Let’s ride.
Western Kentucky -2.5 vs. UTSA
UTSA is one of the biggest surprises of the year. After a solid 7-5 campaign last year, the Roadrunners finished this regular season 11-1, the best record in program history. That being said, they have not been very impressive down the stretch. They narrowly beat Southern Miss and UAB before getting boat raced last week by North Texas. Western Kentucky’s season has been the exact opposite. They started out the season 1-4, but have won seven games in a row since then. These aren’t narrow victories either. They have won six of those seven games by at least three touchdowns. Needless to say they covered all of those games, as well. UTSA will probably be very motivated for this one, seeing as it is the school’s first conference championship game. But WKU will have no shortage of motivation. It was this Roadrunner team who handed the Hilltoppers their last loss back in week five. Western is one of the hottest teams in the country and UTSA hasn’t looked like themselves in about a month. Give me the Hilltoppers to win and capture their third Conference USA title.
San Diego State -5.5 vs. Utah State
The Mountain West title will be on the line when Utah State travels to San Diego on Saturday. The Aggies have won their last five road games, but the Aztecs are a tough team to beat at home. They are 8-1 SU in their last nine games in their own building. Utah State is a solid team, but they are fairly one dimensional on offense. They are 15th in the nation in passing yards, but just 73rd in rushing offense. That should not be much of a threat against the San Diego defense that ranks 11th in the country in total defense. The Aztecs will look to run the ball and play defense, a formula that has allowed them to go 11-1 this season. This could spell trouble for an Aggie defense that is 86th in the country against the run. Utah State has also struggled to cover the spread when playing the Aztecs. They are just 1-4 ATS in the last five games in this matchup. The Aggies thrive on explosive plays and I don’t see them being able to have many against one of the best defenses in the country. Back the Aztecs to win their third MWC championship in the last six years.
Georgia -6.5 vs. Alabama
Historically, it is never safe to bet against Alabama, but this is not the typical Alabama team. They are 11-1, but their only impressive win of the season was against Ole Miss. Their only other quality win was against Arkansas. And that game was back and forth until the fourth quarter. Bama also looked pretty weak in their OT win against Auburn. The Tigers were forced to start their backup quarterback and he was noticeably battling an ankle injury for most of the second half. QB Bryce Young was passable in the win. He threw for over 300 yards, but he did throw it 51 times. Young could afford to be average against the 91st ranked Auburn passing defense, but he will have to be much better against the 2nd ranked Georgia passing defense. It is that defense that has allowed Georgia to steamroll everyone in their path this season. Since their seven-point win against Clemson in week one, their smallest margin of victory was 17 points versus Kentucky. I just don’t see how Bama will be able to move the ball against the Bulldog defense. Everyone has been looking at Alabama through crimson-colored glasses this year, but I think their flaws will be exposed in this game. This one will probably be close at first, but Georgia will pull away. Take the Bulldogs to finally get over the Bama hump and become SEC Champs.
The Rest of the Bunch:
Baylor +4.5 vs. Oklahoma State Jackson State -7 vs. Prairie View A&M Pittsburgh vs. Wake Forest O72.5
I know it is boring to take this much chalk, but these are the picks. These are winners. We’re going to ride off into the sunset of this season by going 6-0. Your bookie will be shaking in his boots when he sees this card.
