Here’s an overview of some of the top games in sports being played on June 1. Today, we’re taking a closer look at five games from Major League Baseball and the NHL.
Miami Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies – 6:40 PM ET
The Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies will kick off our daily sports bets today. Miami, with a record of 19-27, faces a team they lost to 7-1 yesterday. The Marlins had no answer for the Rockies batters and likely will be in trouble again tonight. Miami has yet to decide who will take the mound for them. This is likely due to how many injuries their rotation has suffered.
The Colorado Rockies are trying to work their way back up to .500. Through their last five games, the Rockies have lost three of them. They got off to a good start against the Marlins yesterday and will look to do so again. On the mound for the Rockies is German Marquez, who is 1-5 this season. Even with Marquez’s poor pitching, we’ll take the Rockies tonight.
Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles – 7:05 PM ET
The next game we’re going to take a look at is the Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles. The Mariners, 21-28 this season, took a solid 10-0 win over the Orioles yesterday. After a huge road win, the Mariners are ready for Game 2 of this series. On the mound for Seattle is Robbie Ray, who has a 4-5 record as a starter.
The Orioles will send the 1-3 Kyle Bradish out to the mound this evening. Bradish has had trouble on the mound with an ERA of 7.31 this season. After how the Mariners performed yesterday, we think Seattle definitely has an edge here. Since Bradish has struggled as well, we’ll stick with the Mariners to win this one on the road.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Boston Red Sox – 7:10 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds have pulled off an incredible five-game run, winning four out of five. Tonight, they’ll look to secure another win over the Boston Red Sox, who they beat yesterday. Hunter Greene, the starting pitcher for the Reds today, has a record of 2-6 this season. Greene’s record and ERA of 5.89, don’t give us much confidence in this one.
The Boston Red Sox will start the 1-1 Garrett Whitlock on the mound tonight. Whitlock has an ERA of 3.49, which is a fair bit better than Greene’s. The Red Sox also has a sizable advantage at the plate with a team batting average of .258. Because of this, we’ll take the Red Sox to win at home tonight -210.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers – 8:00 PM ET
The NHL game of the day is the Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Rangers. The Lightning begin their series against the Rangers after beating the Florida Panthers. Perhaps the most impressive bit is that the Lightning beat the Panthers in four games, led by brilliant goaltending from Andrei Vasilevskiy. After that performance, Tampa Bay is coming into this game with a lot of momentum.
The Rangers’ defense will be tasked with slowing down the Lightning. On average, Tampa Bay scores 3.48 goals per game while allowing just 2.78. The Rangers, on the other hand, score an average of 3.05 goals per game and allow 2.49. Each of these teams has an impressive defense. However, we’ll take the road team to win Game 1.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – 8:10 PM ET
Shortly after the start of the game above will be the game between the Pirates and Dodgers. The Pirates, 21-27, have won two straight games against one of the best teams in MLB. Today, they’ll look for their third win over the Dodgers who they beat 5-3 yesterday. On the mound for Pittsburgh is Jose Quintana, who has a 1-2 record as a starter.
On the other side, the Dodgers will start the 1-0 Mitch White. White has an ERA of 4.60 over the course of 15.2 innings pitched. We know that the Dodgers have better batting on paper than the Pirates. However, after a few recent performances, it’s clear the Dodgers are out of sync. Still, you’ve got to go with the better team to win this one, Dodgers -255.
