It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Wednesday’s schedule.
New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants – 3:45 PM ET
We’ll begin our MLB best bets by taking a look at the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. The Mets, 29-16 this season, have won three of their last five games. Today, with Thomas Szapucki taking the mound for the first time, they’ll try to beat the Giants. Without knowing much about Szapucki, we’ll have to wait and see what he brings to the team.
The Giants will have the 1-1 Jakob Junis take the mound for them this afternoon. Junis has an impressive ERA of 2.70 over 26.2 innings pitched. The Mets have an edge in terms of batting over the Giants, however, San Francisco isn’t far behind. With a team batting average of .249, we’ll take the Giants to win it today.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres – 4:10 PM ET
Two teams with great records this season will face each other this afternoon. The Milwaukee Brewers are 27-16 and lead the NL Central. The San Diego Padres are 28-15 and are second in the NL West. On the mound for the Brewers tonight is Aaron Ashby, who is 0-3 this season. This puts the Brewers in a tough situation on the road.
The starting pitcher for the Padres is Yu Darvish, who has gone 4-1 as a starter. With an ERA of 3.91, the Brewers batters will have their work cut out for them. The good news for the Brewers is that Ashby has an ERA of 3.49, which is better than Darvish’s. The Brewers took down the Padres yesterday 4-1, so we’ll take them again today +115.
Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds – 6:40 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs are 18-24 but have won their last three games. Considering they’re facing the Cincinnati Reds, we like their chances of winning this game. As a team, the Cubs have a batting average of .236, which is much better than the Reds at .217. With that being said, the Cubs are starting the 2-4 Kyle Hendricks.
Hendricks has had a few inconsistencies this season. However, the Reds will send out the 0-2 Luis Castillo, a much worse option at SP. Castillo has an ERA of 4.60 in just 15.2 innings pitched this season. He’s allowed 14 hits in the same amount of time so the 0-2 record isn’t surprising. Look for the Cubs to win this one on the road +135.
Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees – 7:05 PM ET
The 18-26 Baltimore Orioles face off against one of the best teams in MLB, the New York Yankees. The first game of this series ended in an Orioles win, while the second went to the Yankees. Today, the Orioles will try to capture another win on the road. Unfortunately, they’ll have the 1-3 Tyler Wells on the mound tonight.
With Wells on the mound, the Orioles will have a tough time trying to win this one. The Yankees batters are going to get off to a quick start, especially after what they did in Game 2. New York scored seven runs against the Orioles yesterday, winning the game 7-6. On the mound for the Yankees is JP Sears, who is 1-0. We’ll go with the home team to win this one.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves – 7:20 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies have lost three of their last five games, bringing their record to 20-23. Tonight, they face the Atlanta Braves, a team they lost to yesterday 6-5. On the mound for the Phillies is Ranger Suarez, who is one of their best pitchers. Suarez has a record of 4-2 with an ERA of 4.12 in 39.1 innings pitched.
However, the Braves batters have done well against good pitchers this season. With a team batting average of .230, the Braves definitely have a chance to win this one. The 3-3 Charlie Morton will get the start for Atlanta. Morton has an ERA of 4.95 this season but has thrown 37 strikeouts in 40 innings. We’ll take the Braves -160 tonight.
