MLB Best Bets for May 8, 2022

It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Sunday’s schedule.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Atlanta Braves – 1:35 PM ETbrewers vs braves baseball betting

We’ll begin our best bets of the day with a game between the Brewers and Braves. Milwaukee, 19-9 this season, is first in the NL Central. Today, they’ll face the Braves, 13-16 and third in the NL East. The Brewers won the first game of the series but lost the second 3-2. After winning four of their last five games, the Brewers will look to close this one with a win.

On the mound for Milwaukee is Aaron Ashby, who has an 0-2 record this season. Ashby has an ERA of 2.33 in 19.1 innings pitched. In those 19.1 innings pitched, he’s allowed 15 hits and thrown 22 strikeouts. His opposition is Charlie Morton, the 1-3 starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. Between these two, we think the Brewers will come out on top today.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds – 1:40 PM ETpirates vs reds baseball betting

Shortly after our first game begins, this game will start as well. The Pittsburgh Pirates have an 11-15 record this season. Although they’re under .500, they still have a much better record than the 4-23 Cincinnati Reds. On the mound for the Pirates is the 1-3 Zach Thompson, who has a 9.39 ERA in 15.1 innings pitched.

On the opposite side, the Reds will start the 1-4 Tyler Mahle. With bad pitching on both sides, this game will come down to the best batters. In this regard, the Pirates edge out the Cincinnati Reds. As a team, the Pirates have a batting average of .238 well above the Reds average of .205. We’ll take Pittsburgh +120 in this one.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Francisco Giants – 4:05 PM ETcardinals vs giants baseball betting

Later in the day, we’ll see the St. Louis Cardinals versus the San Francisco Giants. The Cardinals have won three of their last five games, two of which were against the Giants. Their most recent game, however, was a 13-7 loss to the Giants yesterday. Dakota Hudson, 2-2 this season, will take the mound for the Cardinals today.

The Giants and Cardinals have nearly the same team batting average. The Cardinals have a slight edge at .241 compared to the Giants’ .237. San Francisco was able to put up a lot of runs yesterday, but they also gave up seven. The 1-0 Jakob Junis will be the starting pitcher for the Giants tasked with preventing runs. We think the Giants are the better bet in this game.

New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies – 4:05 PM ETmets vs phillies baseball betting

This will be the second game of the day between the Mets and the Phillies. The Mets will have Max Scherzer on the mound today, who is 4-0 this season. New York has a record of 19-9 with a 10-4 record on the road. Playing back-to-back games might be tough for some, but the Mets should handle it easily.

The Philadelphia Phillies are 11-15 this season and have a record of 8-8 at home. Although they lost their most recent game against the Mets, they have beat them before. However, going against Scherzer and the bats of the Mets might prove too much for them here. We’ll take New York to win Game 2 of the double-header today.

Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks – 4:10 PM ETrockies vs diamondbacks baseball betting

The Colorado Rockies have won three of their last five games. One of these losses was a few days ago to the Arizona Diamondbacks. They rallied in Game 2 of the series to win the game 4-1. With their series tied at the moment, we wonder if SP German Marquez can get his first win this year. Marquez is 0-2 to start the year with a 6.92 ERA.

Starting for the Diamondbacks is Zac Gallen, who has a record of 1-0. Through 21 innings, Gallen has allowed only 11 hits and thrown 19 strikeouts. It would seem the Diamondbacks have the better pitcher, but can their batting win them this game? As a team, the Diamondbacks are batting .191, so we’ll take the Rockies to win this one.
