76ers Travel to Minnesota to Face the Timberwolves Friday Night
Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers were able to claim a huge win over the Bucks recently. With that win, Philadelphia moved into third place in the Eastern Conference. Embiid had another incredible outing, scoring 42 points with 14 rebounds.
They’ll head to Minnesota to face off against Karl-Anthony Towns and the Timberwolves. Could Philly continue their road dominance?
The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off of a twelve-point loss to the Toronto Raptors. However, the loss didn’t affect them much in terms of positioning in the Western Conference.
Another loss could see them move down in the standings, though. This game against the 76ers will be a true test for their interior defense. Stopping Joel Embiid isn’t going to be an easy task.
Game Preview: Philadelphia 76ers at Minnesota Timberwolves February 25th
Each of these teams is among the best in their conferences. However, the Philadelphia 76ers are far ahead of the Timberwolves in terms of defense.
You also have to take into account that Joel Embiid is making a case for MVP of the season. He’s averaging nearly thirty points per game at 29.6 and 11.2 rebounds. This means he’s getting double-doubles in every game.
The Minnesota Timberwolves defense is among the worst in the NBA. They allow an average of 111.71 points per game, and opponents are shooting nearly 46% against them. Joel Embiid has a significant size advantage on Karl-Anthony Towns.
However, the Timberwolves can’t afford to double-team Embiid. If they do, Tobias Harris will pick up the slack for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Philadelphia 76ers at Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Prediction
In some aspects, these teams are evenly matched. They both have scorers, Philadelphia has Embiid, and Minnesota has Edwards and Towns.
The problem is where they differ; the 76ers have a considerably better defense than the Timberwolves do. Plus, driving through the lane with Embiid in the paint will be a problem for Edwards. Minnesota has to score from outside.
This is where things start to get problematic for the Timberwolves. This year, the Timberwolves are shooting 34.75% from beyond the arc, 19th in the NBA. With a lack of shooters, they’re forced to drive the ball inside and focus on the mid-range.
Teams have had a very hard time scoring on Philadelphia from the interior. The Milwaukee Bucks found this out a few nights ago.
With that being said, the 76ers won’t be favored by a lot of points here. In their last ten games against Minnesota, Philadelphia is 8-2, with a 7-3 ATS record. You also shouldn’t worry about Philadelphia on the road; they’ve gone 19-10 with an 18-11 road ATS record.
The 76ers are trying to work their way to the top. Take them to cover the spread, with the total going over.
