Red Wings at Flames Betting Preview and Predictions

Detroit Red Wings Travel to Calgary to Face the Flames

The Detroit Red Wings will head to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday evening to take on the Calgary Flames in a non-conference matchup.

This is the second and final game between these two franchises as the Flames picked up a 3-0 road win back on October 21. The Red Wings are fifth in the Atlantic Division (24-26-6, 54 points) and are on a two-game losing streak, while the Flames are leading the Pacific Division (34-14-7, 75 points) and are riding a two-game winning streak.

These teams have been on two completely different courses so far this season, so this should be an entertaining matchup as we see if Detroit can pull off an upset.

Game Preview: Detroit Red Wings at Calgary Flames March 12

Detroit is scoring 2.86 goals on 29.5 shot attempts, while Calgary is averaging 3.47 goals on 35.6 shots per game so far. The Red Wings are being led by center Dylan Larkin as he has produced 56 points (27 goals, 29 assists) and has recorded 12 points in his nine games since the All-Star break.

Compare that to Calgary’s left winger Johnny Gaudreau, who has been elite this season as he is tied for second in the NHL in assists, fourth in hockey in points, and third with a +42 goal differential this season. He has posted 73 points (23 goals, 50 assists) as he had eight points in his previous four games.

Alex Nedeljkovic is struggling a bit this season as he is 15-16-5 with 3.08 goals allowed per game and a 90.5 save percentage for the Red Wings. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been dominant for the Flames as he is 26-11-6 with a 92.6 save percentage and 2.14 goals given up so far. Defensively as a whole, Detroit is giving up 3.61 goals on 33 shots while Calgary is allowing 2.44 goals on just 29.3 shot attempts.

Detroit Red Wings at Calgary Flames Betting Prediction

There is a distinct difference in the level of talent for both of these rosters on both sides of the ice. The Red Wings have been brutal on the road this season as they are sitting at 8-15-3 and struggling on this road trip in general.

These offenses have been on two incredibly different levels as of late as Detroit is averaging 2.3 goals in their previous three games while Calgary is scoring 4.6 goals in their last five games.

The Red Wings are 23-33 against the spread this season, while the Flames are sitting at 30-25 against the spread so far this year. All in all, go with the Calgary Flames to cover the spread in this matchup.
