Daily Rundown for Saturday, April 23, 2022

Here’s an overview of some of the top games in sports being played on April 23rd. Today, we’re taking a closer look at five games from MLB, and the NBA Playoffs.

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays – 6:10 PM ET

The third team in the AL East, the Boston Red Sox is facing the team their tied with today. Boston won the first game of the series, 4-3, after losing two straight games. With the 1-0 Garrett Whitlock on the mound, the Red Sox will look to steal Game 2 as well.

The Tampa Bay Rays will have J.P. Feyereisen start the game today. It will be Feyereisen’s first start of the season, but he already has an impressive five innings pitched. Over those five innings, Feyereisen has thrown seven strikeouts. Look for this to be a pitching battle with few runs scored. However, we’ll take the Red Sox +105 here.

Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves – 7:20 PM ET

The 5-8 Miami Marlins lost the first game of this series against the Atlanta Braves. After suffering a 3-0 loss, they’ll hope that Elieser Hernandez has a better outing on the mound. The main problem with the Marlins might not be pitching. In fact, it’s more likely that it’s their .226 batting average.

The Atlanta Braves will give Ian Anderson the start tonight. Anderson is 1-1 this year, same as Hernandez. However, Anderson’s ERA is slightly troublesome at 6.48. The good news is he’s allowed fewer home runs than Hernandez has this season. We think the Braves are the best team to take here.

Boston Celtics at Brooklyn Nets – 7:30 PM ET

In between all of the baseball action is an NBA game with huge implications. The Boston Celtics are already up two games on the Brooklyn Nets. Boston was able to win both games at home, led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Each of these games has been very close, the largest margin being a seven-point difference.

In order for the Nets to get back on track, they’ll need more from Kevin Durant. In the last game against the Celtics, Durant scored 27 points, however, he went 4 for 17. With such poor shooting, the Nets had a tough time, especially after losing their lead. Tonight, they’ll be playing at home, so we expect a stronger showing.

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres – 8:40 PM ET

In what could be the most entertaining game of the night, the Dodgers will face the Padres. Each team is starting a strong pitcher, with the Dodgers going with the 1-0 Tyler Anderson. Pitching isn’t really what the Dodgers do best, batting is really where they win games. They have 70 runs on the season and have hit 14 home runs.

The Padres will send out Yu Darvish, who is 1-1 this season. With an ERA of 6.28, Darvish will likely have a tough outing against the Dodgers batters. Because of this, we think the better team to take would be the Dodgers, who are only -120.

Memphis Grizzlies at Minnesota Timberwolves – 10:00 PM ET

The Grizzlies have a 2-1 series lead on the Minnesota Timberwolves after a huge win on the road, erasing a 26-point deficit to steal the W. It would seem Memphis has found a way to neutralize Karl-Anthony Towns, who was held to eight points. If they can repeat the same formula again, they should be able to seal a Game 4 victory tonight.

The Timberwolves are imploding quickly and it’s not hard to see it. To win this series, the Timberwolves need to worry less about the referees and more about the scoreboard. They come in as only three-point underdogs here. However, with the points spread being so small, we think the Grizzlies are the better choice.
