Here’s an overview of some of the top games in sports being played on May 20. Today, we’re taking a closer look at five games from Major League Baseball, the NHL, and the NBA Playoffs.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates – 6:35 PM ET

Beginning our daily sports bets is the St. Louis Cardinals versus Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals, 20-18 this season, are coming off of a 7-6 loss to the New York Mets. They begin this series against the Pirates as -150 favorites and for good reason. On the mound tonight is Adam Wainwright, the 4-3 RHP. Wainwright has an ERA of 3.15 over 40 innings pitched.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are 16-21 and have a record of 9-10 at home. They’ll begin their series against the Pirates today, with hopes of securing a victory. After losing a series to the Cubs, it’s important for the Pirates to get a quick start here. However, with the 2-3 Zach Thompson on the mound, the Pirates could be in trouble. We’ll bet on the Cardinals -150 in tonight’s game.

Atlanta Braves vs. Miami Marlins – 6:40 PM ET

Beginning shortly after the above game is the game between the Braves and Marlins. The Atlanta Braves lost their series to the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. After a 7-6 loss, they’ll look to bounce back against the 17-20 Miami Marlins. On the mound tonight is the 2-3 Charlie Morton, who has an ERA of 4.93 this season.

The Marlins will start Trevor Rogers, who has a 2-4 record this season. Rogers has a slightly better ERA than Charlie Morton at 4.45. The biggest difference between these two is in batting, where the Marlins have the edge. As a team, Miami has a team batting average of .243 while the Braves have a .223. We’ll go with the Miami Marlins +105 here.

New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes – 8:00 PM ET

Moving into the NHL, we have Game 2 between the Rangers and the Hurricanes. The Rangers allowed the Hurricanes to edge them out in Game 1, falling 0-1 in the series. Tonight, they’ll try to get their offense into gear and get a win over the Hurricanes on the road. This is a much easier said than done task since the Hurricanes only allow 2.44 goals per game.

Shots on goal will be important for the Rangers to win this game. The more they can pressure the Hurricanes goal, the better chances they’ll have. The Hurricanes have a sizable edge in this category, averaging 34.1 shots on goal per game. The Rangers, on the other hand, only average 29.2. We’ve got to go with the better bet here which is the Carolina Hurricanes -175.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors – 9:00 PM ET

The second game of the Western Conference Finals will go down tonight. The Mavericks, down 0-1, were absolutely shut down in Game 1 of this series. Luka Doncic scored only 20 points and shot 6 for 18 from the field. With a performance like that, it’s hard to consider picking the Mavericks to win this game. Especially since they’re still playing on the road.

The Warriors plans are coming to fruition quickly after targeting Doncic in Game 1. By shutting down the Mavericks leading scorer, they easily defeated the Mavericks 112-87. Since they had no trouble covering the spread last time, they should be able to cover here. The current points spread is only Golden State -6, so we’ll take the Warriors to win again.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames – 10:30 PM ET

Our final game of the night is Game 2 between the Oilers and the Flames. The Oilers, currently down 0-1 in the series, gave up nine goals in Game 1. Their poor defensive performance was highlighted by them scoring six goals themselves. Still, if they want to win Game 2 or any game in this series, they need to be better. Allowing nine goals is a recipe to lose the series quickly.

The Flames scored quickly and frequently against the Oilers defense. Calgary, a team that averages 3.55 goals per game, is looking to make quick work of the Oilers. They’re playing at home again, giving them another advantage. However, the biggest key here is that the Flames can also play incredible defense. We’ll take the Flames again tonight -175.
