It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Friday’s schedule.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Cincinnati Reds – 6:40 PM ET
Kicking off today’s best bets is a game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Cincinnati Reds. The Orioles, with a record of 50-49 this season, have won three of their last five games. Although they’ve yet to decide who will take the mound, the Orioles are in a good spot to win. They just took down the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in a four-game series.
For the Cincinnati Reds, the 1-7 Mike Minor will make the start tonight. Minor has had a rough season, throwing 46.0 innings and posting a 6.65 ERA. With him on the mound tonight, the Reds chances of winning drastically declined. The Orioles should be able to win this one against Minor and the Reds, we’ll take Baltimore.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Pittsburgh Pirates – 7:05 PM ET
The next game we’re going to review is the Philadelphia Phillies against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yesterday, the Phillies got the better of the Pirates and won the game 8-7. Tonight, Bailey Falter, who is 0-3 this season, will get the start. After pitching 33 innings, Falter has faltered with an ERA of 5.18 and allowed 38 hits.
The Phillies will likely have to rely on their bats again to win this game. The good news is that they have a sizable advantage when it comes to this aspect. As a team, the Phillies are batting .247 this year compared to the Pirates .220. The Pirates will send out the 3-5 Jose Quintana, who has an ERA of 3.70. We’ll go with the Phillies on the road again at -125.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Washington Nationals – 7:05 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals are one of the best teams in the NL Central. With a record of 52-47 this season, the one thing that troubles us is their record on the road. The Cardinals are 23-27 when traveling this season and have lost three of their last five games. Considering that their last five games were on the road, you should keep that record in mind.
Facing them today is the Washington Nationals, who are 34-66 this season. On the surface, the Nationals are an unassuming team but they’ve pulled off impressive wins before. In fact, they’ve won three of their last five games, two of which were over the Los Angeles Dodgers. They’re also batting .247 as a team, which well above average. We’ll take Washington +158 here.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Atlanta Braves – 7:20 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks have won three games in a row, increasing their record to 45-53. On the road this season, however, the Diamondbacks have gone 18-26. Taking the mound for them against the Braves is Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner has an ERA of 3.71 with a record of 6-9 this season. Bumgarner’s good but the Braves pitcher is much better.
Taking the mound for Atlanta is Kyle Wright, who has a 12-4 record this season. Wright has thrown 115 strikeouts in 116 innings and is the Braves best pitcher. With an ERA of 2.95, Wright should do just fine against the batters of the Diamondbacks. He also has a strong group to back him up tonight, so we’ll take the Braves at +180.
Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros – 8:10 PM ET
The final game that we’ll look at is the Seattle Mariners at the Houston Astros. Each of these teams has a long AL West history that will continue tonight. Yesterday’s game ended in a 4-2 loss for the Mariners who struggled to get going. Taking the mound tonight is the 8-7 Robbie Ray, who has a 3.90 ERA over 120 innings.
The Houston Astros have named the elite Justin Verlander as their starter for tonight’s game. This is unfortunate for the Mariners as Verlander is 13-3 with a 1.86 ERA this season. The Astros are a slightly better team at the plate as well, batting .239. With a 31-14 record at home, the pick here is simple. Houston Astros at -178 and we’ll pair that with the under.
