MLB Best Bets for May 18, 2022

It’s another great day for baseball betting! Here, we’re taking a look and betting on the top five games on Wednesday’s schedule.

Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers – 1:10 PM ETbraves vs brewers baseball betting

Beginning our best bets of the day is the Atlanta Braves versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves, fourth in the NL East, come off a 3-0 win over the Brewers yesterday. They’ll look to add another win to their 17-20 record tonight when they start Max Fried. Fried is 4-2 as a starter this season with an ERA of 3.14. He’s also thrown 41 strikeouts in only 43.0 innings.

The Brewers will send out Corbin Burnes, who’s pitched 45.2 innings this season. Although he’s pitched more innings than Fried, Burnes has a record of 1-2. The key for the Brewers tonight is with their bats. Unfortunately, they could be without SS Willy Adames tonight. If he’s out, we’ll take the Braves to win on the road again.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Cleveland Guardians – 6:10 PM ETreds vs guardians baseball betting

Moving to later in the day, we have the 10-26 Cincinnati Reds versus the 16-18 Cleveland Guardians. The Reds have gone 3-2 over the course of their last five games. Tonight, they’ll put Tyler Mahle on the mound, in hopes of adding another win to their record. However, Mahle has a 2-4 record this season with an ERA of 5.89.

The Cleveland Guardians and their batters should do well against Mahle. The SP tonight for the Guardians is Cal Quantrill, who has a 1-2 record this season. With each team not having the best pitching situation, this game will come down to batting. The Guardians easily have the edge here which is why we’ll take them to win tonight.

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies – 6:45 PM ETpadres vs phillies baseball betting

The Padres, 23-13 this season, beat the Phillies 3-0 in the first game of the series. Surprisingly enough, the Padres were able to shut down the bats of Philadelphia. Today, tasked with the same responsibility, is LHP Blake Snell. Snell has yet to make a start this season, so he could be in for some trouble tonight.

Although the Padres won the first game of this series, the second will likely go to the Phillies. Their batters rank second overall in team batting average (.253) and eighth in on-base percentage (.315). Considering they’re going against a pitcher that has yet to throw a single inning, we like their chances. Take the Phillies -160 at home tonight.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Mets – 7:10 PM ETcardinals vs mets baseball betting

The St. Louis Cardinals have risen to the second-place spot in the NL Central. With a record of 20-16, it’s no surprise they’ve gotten this far. However, they face a tough test tonight in the New York Mets. Sure, they won yesterday, but tonight they’ll face SP Max Scherzer, who has a 4-1 record this season. On the mound for the Cardinals is the 1-3 Jordan Hicks.

The Mets betters should be anxious to take on the Cardinals today. Hicks has an ERA of 4.15 this season over the course of 21.2 innings. However, they can’t underestimate him as he’s thrown 21 strikeouts and allowed just 13 hits. The good news is the Mets will get some help from Scherzer who should have another incredible game. We’ll take New York -200 here.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers – 8:05 PM ETangels vs rangers baseball betting

Our last game of the night is between the Angels and Rangers. Los Angeles, 24-15 this season, will send the 3-2 Shohei Ohtani out to the mound today. Ohtani has an ERA of 2.78 and has already thrown 46 strikeouts this season. Those 46 strikeouts were over the course of 32.1 innings, making the statistic even more impressive.

The Angels are clearly the better team from a statistical standpoint. However, the Texas Rangers have been them in both games to start this series. The most recent win was yesterday when the Rangers took down the Angels 10-5. On the mound for the Rangers tonight is Dane Dunning, who is 1-2 this season.
