jaguars beat the bills 9-6 in a big upset

NFL Upset of the Week Jaguars vs Bills Week 9

Jaguars take down the Bills with a Score of 9-6

Yesterday was full of upsets in the NFL. The Giants, Browns, Broncos, Falcons and our beloved Titans all won outright as underdogs. But the most surprising upset from Week 9 had to be the Jacksonville Jaguars (+725) taking down the Buffalo Bills. This game was full of sub-plots: Running back James Robinson was out with an injury. Trevor Lawrence left the game at one point with an ankle injury. And the battle of the Josh Allen’s–more on that later. So amidst all of this, how exactly did Jacksonville slay the mighty Bills as 14.5 point underdogs.

The Jags defense led the way in this game from the beginning. They never let QB Josh Allen get in a rhythm. He only managed to throw for 46 yards in the first quarter. Buffalo had two scoring drives in the first half, both resulting in field goals. Those six points would be the only points they scored all afternoon.

Allen was not able to get going in the second half either. The Bills first two offensive drives were stopped early on interceptions. The second one was intercepted by Jacksonville linebacker Josh Allen. It was the first time in NFL history a QB was intercepted by someone with the same name–probably. LB Josh Allen also recorded a sack in the game. That was the first time a QB was sacked by someone with the same name since 1982–that is actually true.

Jacksonville was able to tack on a field goal after the interception to make it 9-6. After that, the two teams traded punts. Then, Buffalo got the ball and was actually putting together a solid drive. They got down to the Jags 32 before Bills QB Josh Allen fumbled. And guess who was there to scoop it up. LB Josh Allen. It was the first time in NFL history…ah you get the idea.

Jacksonville punted on their next drive which left the door wide open for Buffalo to steal a victory. They drove down to Jacksonville’s 39 before QB Josh Allen was sacked for a nine yard loss. This time by defensive end Dawuane Smoot. It all came down to the next play. 4th and 16 from the Jags 48. Allen took the snap, rolled right, and attempted to sling the ball to Stephon Diggs past the sticks. But the pass was low and the ball fell to the grass. Incomplete. Jags pull off the miracle. This is just the team’s third win in their last 24 games.

All jokes aside, LB Josh Allen had a hell of a game. He tallied eight total tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery, and one interception. The defensive captain made the league aware that he is no longer “The other Josh Allen.” My hat goes off to him and the entire Jacksonville Jaguars defense. They earned it. I also tip my cap to anyone who was crazy enough to bet Jags money line. It was a wild weekend in the NFL, but this upset takes the cake.

Honorable mention: Illinois (+475) 14-6 vs. Minnesota
